3dpdk,

I think this is really creative work. You're doing an excellent job!

The blending of rendered elements with the backplate is well done. Also, way to go on that tent! It didn't jump out at me when I first looked at it. Looks natural.

Man, you're really roughing it...I don't even see a beer cooler near that tent.

Very creative, got a kick out of the tent in the background.

A screen capture of your scene would be very cool here!

What a great idea and looking really good.

(Maybe you should think of changing your handle to 3dflatpack? :) )

Gonna be fun to watch this develop, thanks for sharing.

Nice images!

But at the risk of sounding ignorant (which I never usually have a problem doing) what's a triffid? Is it the plant from John Wyndham's novel?

Now that you mention it, I don't see any footings at all.
Hope you're in a frost-free area.

OK ... OK!

I dug some footings, laid the block and brick (WITH hurricane ties) and nailed the floor joists.

...had the county inspector lined up to come inspect when a ?herd?/?flock?/?pack? of velosirapters decided to check out my building sight!!!! He must have thought they were my pets because he walked right up to the alpha female and TRIED to scratch her behind the ears ...

well ...

... after they all had "lunch" the alpha female burped, picked a bit of cotton shirt hanging from her teeth, scratched her butt and eyeballed my tent. I guess she thought of a better place for a nap because she shrieked a few times and the all went trotting off to where ever they had came.

Now I'm left with uninspected foundations and a little white VW.
What to do ... what to do?????

for the answer to the trifids question naes3d asked:

something cozmykwizard whipped up using the same backdrop
http://forums.caligari.com/discus/messages/1584/18745.html? (http://forums.caligari.com/discus/messages/1584/18745.html?)

Vizu (?buzz?): Yep! tS6.6 and PS7 to soften a few edges, but mostly tS "raw" render. Learned my lighting from another real artist in Hamburg ;)

Spacekdet! The cooler went missing after the first day, heard some commotion outside the tent...now we know where the beer went!

Hay Steve! Thanks for the link. It took a while to figure out the new forums and I have more stuff to upload, but I have to do it a little at a time. I'm coming in off the Gulf to port a little more often now and I can hook the ship's nav computer into dial-up. More of this house and a few scenes and characters from a sci-fi movie I've been working on.

By-the-way, I can't figure out from the new screen names if Glen or Mr. Logan are here. Any clues?

Paul

Hi Paul, those pesky raptors just have no respect for planning regs!

I know what you mean about the names. I'm still trying to pair some of them up. As far a I know JFL is still AWOL but just about everyone else is here.

Maybe we should have a check in so everyone knows who everyone else is, or maybe they prefer anonymity????

Hi Paul - great to see you back with us - and madmouse too!

That's a popular piece of woodland you're building in - wrong time of year for Triffids though, you can tell by the presence of the Velociraptors. Flesh eating lizards versus flesh eating plants? I'd say the plants would have the advantage there!!:D :D

Looking forward to more.

Very nice picture. One comment though. The velociraptors are probably about two times too large in comparison with the car and tent, etc.

From Wikipedia: Velociraptor had a skull length of 249 mm (9.80 in), a total length of 1.8 m (6 ft), a total height of 0.8 m (2.5 feet), a hip height of 0.5 m (1 ft 8 in), and weighs 20 kg (45 lb).

Maybe these are mutated modern day labortory escaped velociraptors ;). Fun scene and leads me to imagine what is going on here.

... so after I convinced the authorities That I had nothing to do with the strange disappearance of Howard the County Inspector, I hired a couple of young fellas from downtown to come out and pound nails for a day.

I decided not to tell them about the (North American Olive Back Velociraptor; about twice larger than the more commonly known raptor) raptor family; the little guy, "Beetle", was kind of a weird little kid anyway and I figured he'd wander off trying to catch one. Then I'd have to explain to his parents ... deal with the authorities a second time ... and I didn't want the raptors associating my house with a free lunch!

I DID tell them that if we finished with the subfloor before noon they could keep the cleverly camouflaged, white VW in the woods behind my tent!

Well ... nails were flying everywhere and we had the first wall frame standing before I finished my first pot of coffee.

All in all, a much better day!

Paul (3dpdk, no mysteries there either ... shoot ... who needs anonymity? I can use all the notoriety I can muster :D)

ps ...but maybe WWotW can explain 3dflatpack!?! I'm a little dense sometimes when it comes to subtle humor:rolleyes: !

What I want to know is how you explained off (and/or cleaned off) all those Velociraptor droppings (must have been quite a mess).

Looking good!

First image in the story shows lots of flat panels of wood; it was a reference to the 'Ikea' style furniture/fittings, etc, that comes ready cut, drilled and so on which you assemble yourself at home, commonly known as "flat pack" furniture.

Ho, hum, guess it maybe wasn't quite so funny after all. Must try harder! :)

Ok, here's the one that shows that I wouldn't think of building without a solid foundation.

Poured cement over three runs of 5/8 re-bar; threaded rod "hooks", tied and embedded beneath the re-bar and up through three courses of block and 6 courses of brick and finally securing the flooring nailer with 2 1/2 inch washers and hex head bolts. That's according to the new hurricane regs in the Carolinas and Georgia.

:)

Just wanted to show that I'm actually including all framing. Notice the formers under the stairs to the sunken living room.
