I'm not worried sitting here with Seven of Nine sipping a latte under stars and watching those nicely textured big black truespace cubes falling from the sky....

I think their presents from Santa!;)

Flippin eck, I seem to have woken up every closet trekkie fan on the forum. :D And as for you Steinie, your sitting with 7 of 9 underneath a beautiful moonlit sky and all you are doing is sipping a latte?

Seriously, thanks for all the comments everyone and to all those fairly new to tS, let me just say that making a Star Trek type spaceship is a fantastic way to get to grips with modelling and in particular SDS. I have never really used it before, or If I had it was just a complete disaster. Now however, I'm finally getting to grips with it and am wondering how on earth I have managed without it.

Scotland has been battered by storms the last couple of days and the ensuing power-cuts have really scuppered getting the final image as I would have liked. Some of the areas I am trying to improve upon is the “Hero Model” federation ship, the Cutty Sark and I have completely redesigned the upper bridge area. I'm also experimenting with actual windows on the craft and have set it up so that each individual window has its own UV plane so I can change anyone with just a click of the paint face tool. If I get the time to create a wider variety of window graphics it could look quite cool. For example you can actually see the Cutty Sark's captain in her ready room.

I have also been playing about with blended alpha maps and seeing if I can get the ships lights to illuminate. All the piccies below are very much WIP and with time now rapidly running out it is going to be a case of make do.

I also had a whole series of other SFX on my wish list, but it looks like they will have to wait for another day.

This reminds me of "Spaceballs", the movie by Mel Brooks.

I hope Lord Helmet won't vaporize your heroes.

Okay, despite all the power cuts I managed to get this almost as I wanted. Don't you just hate cutting your images in half (or in my case, almost a third ) in order to post them on the forum. Still, get your magnifiying glass out and you should see some good detail. My favourite part of the image...the running light on the forward deck illuminating the Cutty Sark's name. Enjoy. :)

Very impressive. I couldn't have modeled the Federation ship in months, if at all. I like the Trek control panel style messages in your posts. Nice touch.

How about an animation?

... sitting here with Seven of Nine sipping a latte ...

... sitting here watching Seven of Nine mud wrestle with Yeoman Rand and Dax ... What's that ladies? I should join in? .... resistance is futile!

Thanks very much rjeff, much appreciated - it's nice to get a comment on this thread that actually relates to the work/image.:D Yep, considering how late I entered the challenge, I must admit I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out.

Thanks for the kind words Finis. As for the data control panels, shows how bored I can get. As for an animation, must admit to being sorely tempted. I think I would have to completly redo the federation model though as there is just so many areas I could improve upon now having built the first. Mmm another WIP thread coming on methinks.
