We are the new "Ocean Eleven"! Maybe someone else could join the MMC and make us the "Dirty Dozen":D
Still developing the head. I decided to make the hair and mustache by hand.
I wanted twisting hair but Caligari is taking their sweet old time getting us bending tools...
I'm thinking of scaling the size of the hair down and then lengthening it so that the hairs have a smaller diameter.
The hat texture is giving me problems, not finding the right one yet. |

Still working the face details. I think his "character" is starting to breath.
I'm tempted to get into texturing details on this one but a deadline is coming quick.
Like the Mule project I may keep this one going after the MMC.
Next: He ain't nobody without some body... |

After creating a Skeleton for Custer I tested how his various stances would look.
I still haven't modeled his gloves or feet yet. |

Hey Steinie...after the MMC is over just throw some overalls on him and he could be Jed Clampett too! ;)

Nope partner this is not the final rendering. There is a small part that was from my previous work so I might get disqualified. The model will be very small in the final picture. This will end up being a PIP. |

Looks great! Awesome character, of course.
Is the sky and background a photo? What about the ground and grass in front? Photo? Modeled? |

Finis, I used three photos that were composite on a plane. As you can tell I like doing Characters.
Breech Block, I actually had fun doing them. I kept looking at my own hand and saying to myself, "yes that finger is bent just so..." and trying duplicate.
Thanks to all that have followed along.
I will show a wire here and my next post will be the finished version for the Challenge.
The final is also a Realtime Render. All work was done on the workSpace side.
This one was a lot of fun.
I hope you like it. |

What Really Happened:
All alone General Custer held up the White Flag only to find out his Troop had pulled one last practical joke. |

Nicely done! You certainly have a way of thinking, as much as I hate this term, "outside the box" when it comes to these themes. |

From another thread the question was asked:
Tahnoa asked: "... interested to hear why you chose this ... but I like to hear what others were thinking as they were modeling and designing the scene."
An elf reporter grabbed Steinie while shopping for Christmas gifts for Tahnoak and ask him that question:
Steinie, "One of the Cartoonist who has influenced my work would be Gary Larson and his unusual sense of humor. Also my brother's Mad Magazines are in my blood with Mort Drucker, Don Martin and Sergio Aragonés having heavy influences in my style, gag presentation and humor.
I want the viewer to "think" because my humor is not up front and obvious. My Character design always starts with the eyes and then the character's stance to communicate the mood or reaction to the scene.
The shift from pen to 3D is not easy and much more work. However the benefits are in the realistic lighting, pov scene presentation and re-use of materials if needed.
The gag is really the most important part of each of my Scenes. The models, scene and renderings are eye candy.
...now what was I doing...I forget...." |

Thanks Steinie. Very insightful and I will say that I enjoy the humor in your scenes. But just like anything else, it may not be the message you were trying to convey but if I find it humorous for other reasons then so much the better....
now tell that elf reporter to get back to work. There are kids in line waiting to sit on the big man's lap and give their christmas list. First Herbie wants to be a Dentist and now this other elf wants to be a reporter, geeeesh, what's next???? :D |
