Thanks Finis. I am hopeful that my scenes may ellicit a momentary break from reality and make someone sort of develop their own brief story based on what they see. It may not be what I intended but who cares. If it makes you think for even just a moment then the scene has been well worth the effort.

I am still pondering what I want to do outside the window. I put a tree there but did not like the look I was getting. I was considering using Terragen and creating a night sky with some clouds but still waiting for the right inspiration....

Edit: Here is an updated screenie. Obviously one of the two of them is a collector :D I also added the wood burning stove in the corner but it needs some tweaks.

Probably more than you wanted to know. :D

Possibly :p

LMAO

Great work tahnoak, really moody. Those plates were a really great addition.

So, is this piece of work a deliberate companion to your Railway Station scene; i.e. a scenario from both the husband's and wifess point of view?

You know what.... at first it wasn't but when I decided what the theme was, it almost slapped me in the face. Yes, he's "Not Coming Home" because he missed the "Last Train". Maybe my next one should be "Home At Last" :D

BTW, here is my final screenie. Like you, I tend to get bored if I work on something too long so I did not want to do that with this one. It deserved more than that.

How about...
Make one plate/ place setting 'dirty'/used.
Utensils in the glass, wadded napkin on the plate, etc.

Like 'the one at home' didn't go to bed w/o dinner, but left the dirty dishes for the 'one who is not home' to clean up.
Just one of those little, perfectly innocent, passive-agressive gestures that liven up cohabitation!

PS, love the stove, but every stove needs a kettle of water on top.
(And you thought you were done...)

To be honest, my first idea was that he was NEVER coming home but decided to change it sort of at the last minute to tie into the "Last Train" scene.

I thought about having one place setting dirty but in the end decided that she just lost all interest in eating and just went to bed. She was not angry at him for being late. She just did not want to eat without him so she did not eat (that is what my wife has done so it is semi-real life based). Now you might ask then why didn't she bother putting the food away? Good question, that very well may be one of those things that couples do to "dig at each other" every once in a while. Guess we will just have to wonder :p

Good idea on the kettle of water. I might consider that for the final installment in the lives of this couple. Eventually he has to come home, doesn't he......

Very nice job tahnoak. I really like the cool and warm variety in this pic.

As for the window... how about a winter snow; which can also explain why he isn't home yet.

This has come along very nicely indeed; agree that as the external light source is quite 'strong' (based on the shadow intensity) that you probably need to see soemthing out the window. Terragen can be a lot of fun, but it can be very tricky to get your point of view/pespective to look right. You may also want to change the shadow for the glass on the right of the table, which doesn't seem to have any transparency - you could adjust your shadow casting light to 'transparent shadows' or you could replace the glass with a cup/mug so that you don't have to fiddle with the lights....

The idea of linking it with your other picture is a clever one, albeit one that a 'casual observer' (to say the Caligari Gallery) would never be aware of - so it works for us, but might be lost on others (not that that should stop you).

NEZ..

Thanks for the feedback. I will probably come back to this in a few months or so as my creativity on this scene has moved on to other thoughts and pursuits. A character flaw on my part :)

I understand that the linkage between the two scenes will be completely lost on most folks. I just need to figure out a way to make it "found" for future projects.

Thanks again to everyone for the input and feedback and likes and dislikes. I may not always change it but I appreciate the honesty.
