Hi,
I'm new to the forums, but been a part time user since version 3
I currently use V6.6 sp2. I am defenitly not an artist but I like to model
and render mechanical things. Reading other posts in the forums there
seems to be a line between mechanical or automobile modelers and
artsy or organic modelers. I can appreciate both types. Since I am not an
artist my renders will most always be of the mechanical types.
I am showing a render of my friends dragster that is temporarily at my
garage. This a 1960s dragster with a Ford 427 S.O.H.C. Cammer engine.
This engine was Fords answer to the chryler hemi and in my opinion is
far superior. Yes, I am a Ford car nut. I read all the tutorials that I can
find on car creation and try them.
I would like to be able to model my 1965 Mustang Fastback
someday. I still have trouble with point editing, things just dont seem
to react in the ways I think it should, I will just keep trying.
This dragster model is far from complete, but I would be interested your
comments. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
Your render looks good and what a neat contraption that is. Do you remove the front wheels to avoid damage (bouncing?) during transit ? |

I guess I prefer the organic side of the fence. Also we differ on our choice of engines, 426 Hemi on a track not on a trailer;).
I like the area you live...backpacking the Rattlesnake Trail and the Donut Hole...:)
As far as Mustang modeling try this way for starters. Quick and easy.

Welcome to the forums! Nice model too! I particular like the work on the spokes on the front wheels. Nice chrome material as well, which can be hard to get looking good.
I hope to see more posts as the model progresses! I also would love to see this in a room or some other setting to give it a sense of scale. Some surrounding items will help tell just how large this is, and I think some lighting work at that time could add to that too. Of course a great model like this could lead to all sorts of great renders - being loaded up, being worked on in the garage, tearing down a track, sat ready to go waiting for the lights to change - tons of ideas that would be interesting and dramatic to see once you have the model looking as good as this!
I'm more of a technical kind of guy when it comes to my renders too, never quite so good at the artistic or the organic stuff :)
Anyway, hope to see more as it grows!

Hi Chester,
The front wheels dont get removed for transport, I just havent got the
courage to tackle the dropped front axle yet, thats why it looks taken apart
while on the trailer.

I knew there had to be some of you Mopar guys around so us Ford
guys have someone to beat up on :) Also, thanks for the link, thats a
new one to me, definitly will be checking that out.

Thanks for the vote of confidence and for the great ideas, I think the
front wheels did come out pretty good myself. I have always had problems
doing chrome, more so since version 6 with shaders. I was just getting the
hang of using the environment maps when version 6 came out. Seeing
other people's tutorials and or settings for materials has been a big help.
