I can't get TS7 to open again. I get the errors below (from top to bottom) when I try to start TS7. I'm hoping somebody maybe has an idea of how to get it open and working again without reinstalling? I really don't want to reinstall again and lose all of my libraries, objects, and everything.

I'm not sure what caused this. The only thing I can think of is that I had opened 6.6 (not at the same time) to individually save some old models because 7 couldn't find the materials in the scene files and was crashing when I tried to load them. After saving my models I closed down 6.6 and now 7 won't open.

Have you tried holding down CTRL when you launch TS7. Failing that delete the default.ctx from the TS folder.

I had exactly the same problem when I first bought True Space 7, holding down control allowed me to open the program again:)

Thanks for the ideas guys. I gave it a go but it still doesn't seem to want to open. :(

I did notice that there were some selections when control opening. Is there a specific setting I should be selecting?

Yeah, choose Wireframe display and Use default configuration to be on the safe side. If this does not do it-delete the default.ctx file in your TS folder.

Still throwing up those errors. I think I'm facing the inevitable reinstall. :(

Any other possible ideas?

The DX thing gives me call to believe that it is player or graphics related. Not using a Nvidia Card are you? There are problems with certain drivers...you did delete the default.ctx as well didn't you?

That forces TS to default to its original context...failing that......:confused:

the library error sounds like it is the DX items library..in the directory ts/ RS libraries/DX items/ view items ..folder, it has 5 Rs items in it..does that folder exist still?

hmmm....Perhaps it is graphic driver related. I did upgrade to the 83.62 about a week ago. It was working fine up until today though. It looks like they have 83.90 beta out now so maybe I'll try that. If that doesn't work I'll try going back to the old one.

I'll give it a go in a little bit here. Thanks Paul. :)

Edit: oh, I didn't see your post there stan. I'll take a look at that too.

Whew, ran into all kinds of trouble. I don't think it is the drivers. I tried 83.62, 83.90 and now rolled back to 78.01. Still throwing up the errors.

Thanks for all of the help though guys. :) If you can think of anything else to try I'll have a go at it. I think pretty soon I may just bite the bullet and reinstall though. :( It wasn't too bad the first time I had to reinstall because it didn't take much to get back to where I was. This time I'm sure I'll be spending a good amount of time tracking down things and organizing. :(

Sorry Délé, not sure how to solve your prob, but I can tell you that you don't have to lose your models, scenes, layouts, etc. You can back them up manually in Explorer, just make sure it's to somewhere outside of tS7s install path, then reimport them after the reinstall.

<edit>
Of course, If Caligari put stuff like that in a seperate folder, eg under My Documents, like most other progs do these days, you wouldn't even need to back them up. </rant>
</edit>

Alien..if truespace won't open then you can't export the files to safety , so they can be imported..catch 22..:D

I always thought you could get your scenes and objects etc through Explorer then moving them in to a different folder. basically what Alien Said.:o

Actually Stan...you can.:)

You need to make sure you have your rosetta scenes library backed up in TS folder.

Open Command console in TS then put this in and press enter;

Space.LoadScene('\\RS Scenes\\xxx.rscn')

Obviously, replace xxx with the name of the scene....good luck. ;)

stoker..it works that way in ts6.6, but the new system is another story..scenes must be exported ..or they won't showup in new library..like ts7 scenes .rscn..they have to be exported as .RsScn....then imported as .RsScn

edit.. you mean command prompt Splinters?

Sorry Stan, sometimes during Beta it was referred to as command console (or was it?)

Anyway, that is what you need to load a .RsScn file if you did not export it first, presuming you backed up the Rs Scenes library first...:confused:

At least it can be done...many a time I forgot to export an important scene-last time was the shared space portal scene...Roman wouldn't have been happy if I had lost it...;) Thank god for that console command.

gee, so much for ease of use..:confused:

Splinters, so what commands will Dele need to save his layouts etc.??.

ps..at the moment my ts7 won't go into edit on player side..what next?

Well, I haven't tried Splinters' way, but there is sort of a work around, if there's anything you really can't stand to lose, though it's fiddly & a bit of a hassle.

copy files to somewhere else

do the reinstall

Create/insert dummy objects/scenes/whatever in the relevant libraries with the exact same name as the file you want to put back in

close tS7

paste the copied backup over the dummy file

open tS, go to relevant library, & drag object into LE

delete object in library

Insert object into library again

I know it's a hassle, but it works [at least with objects, that's all I've tried it with]. Oh, don't be surprised when you re-open tS7 to find the icon/thumbnail for the object or whatever in the library is the same as for the dummy object - that's why you have to do the extra steps.

Oh, & Splinters, unless I'm missing something, your method won't work on files that weren't exported from inside tS7, as they're in some different kind of format, they all seem to have the file extension .RsItem, & even changing the extension on a [for example] object file to .RsObj [the extension it wants for importing] doesn't work.

Oh, I just realised, my method won't work for Layouts. :( Oh well, still at least it should work for objects & scenes.

yes Alien I know you can trick the library system.. probably can for layouts too..

what we need is a simple rescue tool..not command prompt,,

Stan, you need TS7 open to input the command so he cannot use it to to export. Dele needs to make sure he saves his entire TS folder from C:\truespace7.

When he gets TS7 back he can use the console. To get his configs he needs to change the command prompt to;

Space.LoadScene('\\RS Configs\\xxx.rscn')g

Changing .rscn extension to match layouts etc. Might be RsConfig :rolleyes: (can't check - just uninstalled TS7...)

Sorry to hear Dele,
Very frustrating! From what I have been reading in this fourm you may have wanted to save the default.ctx file so that Caligari could look at it. From my own experience the default.ctx file is about 6.25 MB and when you have problems like you are having that file becomes larger. Last time I had to reinstall, that file was about 20 MB. The reason I had to reinstall was because my Shader files were corrupted and deleting the default.ctx file did not resolve the issue nor did Ctrl open ts7. Anyway I notice from your earlier post that you were exploring lights, that is the same thing that I was doing before I had to reinstall. Also I would like to point out from my own experience is that when you uninstall ts7 all of your scenes, objects, lights, textures, recordings, etc... that you have saved are not removed from these folders. But I think you have to re import them from within ts7. Hope it ,all works out for you. :(

Actually Alien, it does...

If you read my earlier thread I explained that I salvaged (important) scenes from the Rs Scene library that I had forgotten to export. They load into 3D space and then you can insert into stack RSscene library as normal. Haven't tried it with layouts though....

Good to question a method..another thing to dismiss it as wrong...:cool:

One disclaimer though, I did this in Beta versions..not tried in final version and I have just uninstalled TS7. Yeah, I know...looks like I'm running.... ;-)

I agree - actually, if Caligari had just made saving stuff in a library work the same way it did in 6.6, except using the new file extensions [.RsWhatever], instead of calling them all .RsItem & making them some weird format that's different to the exported version then this wouldn't be an issue at all. I don't know what made them do it this way, but I wish they hadn't! :mad:

Splinters - I can't even get the command prompt to work. The window opens, I can type stuff in, but nothing happens. I hit return & the cursor just goes down a line, as if I was using Notepad or something. :(

I have the same problem in command console sometimes (not really sure how to use it) but you might want to check your text line matches with the file (and source path) you want to import. It does (or did ) work.

As for extensions-it is because we still have old model side until we move over to player; therefore we need extensions for player library objects and compatibility with older ts formats. Not perfect but..it's all we got for now..:o

I looked in the manual to see what I could find [not a lot], & found the command that seems to be the equivalent of adding /? after an old DOS command:

System.Help()

but again, all it does in response to pressing Enter is to move the cursor down a line.

I get what you're saying, but couldn't they have just made it export/convert to [for example] .RsObj when the user inserts or replaces an object? Then there would't be this problem. They seem to have all [or at least 99%] the code for what I'm suggesting, I'm merely suggesting a more efficient way of using it. My way, you'd keep backwards compatibility, along with whatever the .RsFiletypes bring to the table. The only thing you'd lose would be the hassle that Délé's having at the moment.

Sounds like Dele has nothing to lose here anyway. I would test it for him but I no longer have TS7 on my laptop from which I am sending these messages...

Some developers are online...could they confirm the method described?
