Many find the digging in the node system frustrating for simple tasks

so I wold like to have a stack view from within you can attach materials

see what materials are attached with a big preview of the material ...........change the lights ......change camera settings all from within one panel....

You sort of have an overview of everything plus you can group and ungroup etc.

The scene view doesnt exactly do that and its got to many items plus you cant do very much with it .......

Something that is common to programs like Vue..

I am guessing here as I have no inside info on the topic, But...

I guess that at some time in the future that will become the role of the scene view window? Agree with the ability to control/group from an over view type panel, would be very useful

I agree about better manipulation of materials in the stack and have recommended something similar. Unfortunately there wasn't time for it to make the 7.6 release.

One of the changes that was implemented for the new ME and did make the release allows for custom panel creation for material handling by the render engine plugin. That means that when 3rd party render engines are integrated via plugin, they can have their own custom stack panels for handling materials.

I need to learn more about the interface and coding for it, but that's something that I'm planning to take advantage of when I write the Kerkythea plugin. And if there's enough demand, I could eventually make a plugin version of the Yafaray exporter that does that also.

Sounds good - I confess that the material instancing (on model side) is one of my favourite enhancements over tS5 - makes changes to materials so much easier. It could be improved by physically highlighting in your view the objects teh materials are assigned to rather than just listing them (as many of us aren't real rigorous in naming objects) - and I assume a similar feature would be preferable for other render engines too (on workspace).

Having the same ability to control lights would also be good...
