 the new way of selecting in edit mode is not very useful, it would be nice if the old way was implemented in workspace..now if you try to keep something selected it's near impossible. you can't let go of the mouse click or you must start again, trying to reselect what you had. the old way was much better. |

Not sure what exactly you mean Stan.
I trust you are utilizing the Control-key to add to selection and the Shift-key to remove from selection? |

The selection method makes a difference as there is more than one now. I don't have tS open in front of me so I'm working from memory but there's 'pick and paint' and something else and something else. One of them was massively irritating like you suggest, but one of the others work in a more sensible way like we are used to.
Hope that helps. |

thanks Norm..its not a problem making a selection, its keeping it..you can't go into another view to move if the selection is hidden..clicking anywhere but on the original selection removes it..not like before you could..in workspace you constantly loose your selection unless you click and hold right then left again just to use the left for pick and paint..with pick and move, if you must click on the selection only, and then you must stay clicked or loose it..very frustrating.
thanks WWW, pick and paint is the better one to use so you don't loose your selection as much, but I find both types lacking. it would be nice to have an option to do it as in model..after selection, you can click anywhere but on the selection to move, scale or rotate without the widget.:) |

Pick and move is a nice tool for rapid tweaks in a 3d window. Not for everyone I guess, but really fast if you need it. With the dimension tool it's even better in some cicumstances. |

hmm I beg to differ still :) Using the view widget, I can change views, change windows and such, then my selection is still selected. I use control-key to add to the selection or shift-key to remove, but I never "loose" my selection. |

How comes that in Workspace everything has to be much more complicated and more useless? I also find the old method more handy. |

It is very quick and easy, just make sure you use the screen coordinate system..too bad there is no hot key to quickly turn the widget on and off. It gets in the way constantly. |

But there is a way.

after thinking about this issue for awhile I came up with a solution. by make simple modifications to the dynapick widget I now have a tool I can use like in model..
now you can select and go anywhere on the workspace to move, scale or rotate without loosing your selection with pick and move tool :D
if anyone is interested I can make an installer kit to set it up..:) and change it back too ;) .. |

I have keyboard shortcuts assigned to the views that function with or without having ctrl pressed. Seems to let me move about without losing selections. Stan your mod does sound useful though. |
