Hi folks. 3DV made this transformer awhile back. This is what I did:

in workspace, selected all parts and set y rotation to zero

went to model side, set axes for each moving part to visible, then used the Move Axes to Center of Object tool. This took
the axes of each part and centered those axes in that part.

went back to workspace side, expanded the matrix of each moving part

added a timer and a couple multipliers to adjust the yaw rotation

This looks REALLY cool in FPN! I'll see if I can activate the timer with a position trigger and maybe put it in the Immersive scene I have posted.

Awesome!!! This rocks!!!

Way to go on getting this puppy working at last! Looks like this method you employed on the axle solution will work for the 10-wheel-accelerators now too probably! Fantastic! Now the only temporary barriers left to getting the "trueRoller" multi-avatar transport actually working for us all to try out in shared space is setting up a working accelerator and keeping the cab sphere from rotating on it's object Y axis and then we're golden!:)

We don't even need an avatar lock to keep the avatars on the trueRoller platform in the trueRoller cab, there is a railing that does that just fine!

Thanks for doing this!!! You're right too - it DOES look really cool in FPN, I just checked that out! I was really glad to see how much those gear ratios effected that small gear too, it's generating massive speed which can be translated for all kinds of realtime uses now!!!! Awesome work Fro!!!

You're kickin tail now my friend!!!

yeah looks pretty groovy when you can walk around it.

I updated the trigger to start the rotation when you get close to the transformer. It would be a good idea to stop rotation when we leave the transformer too. This would be applicable to other objects, including the roller coaster. O.W. we'd have a hard time getting ON! Anyway, making progress.

Doing this was pretty easy; just getting the time to do it was the issue.

LOL!

I've been looking at that little gear now that's spinning away at break-neck speed!

We could hook that little gear up to all kinds of fun stuff now!!! We could have a platform that you walk onto suddenly hurl you vertically and at a slight forward angle to have you land on some other very high platform or level within a scene! You could even make the platform invisible so walking onto it would be a total surprise! LOL!!!!:D

There's so many ways to use that little gear now this is great!

Thanks, this is one thing that will find many uses in the months ahead by all of us for sure!

maybe it's a conveyor belt gear!

ping.

This is a really nifty little toy folks. Just thought I'd bring it to the forefront.

This is a LE object. Pretty cool for learning the LE and making virtual machines and such. :D

this is totally funny because i dont understand anything about it but it seems very passionately conveyed and it cracks me up because i empathize with it. it just seems like the scene from ghostbusters when lewis tulley (rick moranis) is explaining to egon about the mighty slor, and the history of gozar the gozarian :D

best scene in that movie!

coffee? yes have some!

lol. i love computers and humanity.

I really like this Gear Concept.

Frootee is it ok if I post a file using this Scene that you made with a script variation?

What it does is simple.

It allows you to change the speed of the gears and automatically calculates the speed at which the other gears need to rotate at.

Thanks for this great Scene.

Go for it J90!

Hey, you're welcome! 3dvisuals dude made the gears in 2007; I added the scripts to make them rotate. :)

I'd like to see the gears rotating properly. Right now, if you look closely, you can see that the gear teeth intersect sometimes, which is not very realistic.

Here is the scene which includes the simple J script.

It may be only for me but when I speed up the rotation to a certain amount the teeth don't rotate with the middle part of the gear.

Footee I did see that too. It might be able to look a bit better if it is rotating at just the right speed. I am not sure

3d Visuals what did you use to make the gears? They look nice :)

Edit: After loading the scene you will get an error that says :

Source object: transformer5_mod1/Gear Speed

Error: Unspecified script error

Line 0, Char: 0

Script text: //OnComputeOutputs

Just click ok it still works. It added that for some odd reason and says it is an error.

Hi J90. The interface looks nice. Good job!

Not sure why that error is popping up. Norm may know.

I believe 3dv used MOI 3D to make those. Haven't seen him around the forums for quite some time now.

I've seen the same error message when I've saved a script object with uninitialized inputs.

I populated the fields in the 2D panel, re-saved the object, and had no further problems.

@Frootee: Thanks.

It took a little while to make because I had to think about what attributes were required and I couldn't get the simple math calculations to work.:(

Just a lot of trial and error ;)

@Early: Thanks for letting me know.
