Pretty cool stuff folks!
Only crit I have is that any script that is calling for such a peice of hardware, should first check to see if one exists. If statement to handle possible no-joystick found branch.

Even though I have no joystick, I still wanted to check it out. Doing so gives error in script:/Project/ufo/InitJoystick script at line 10: a=fn.initjoy(1)

It is also neat to see someone doing vbscript!
I wonder if a joystick object in 3D space could be hooked up to this and act like a widget ..?

question here:

My joystick has 15 pins; the only serial connector on my PC is 9 pin. Will a 15 to 9 pin converter work with this joystick?

Thanks,

Froo

Isn't there a standard 15 pin din on your Video Card? It may be internal to the box but is usually on the back board... look hard, I haven't seen a video card without one in 10 years, but it's true I don't get out much!:p

This Joystick 15 pins are not compatible to VGA 15 pins !

Must be an older Joystick. On old Soundcards you once had a 15 pin game connector where you could plug in a Joystick or !!! a MIDI device :) . Most people today don't know this any more as soundcards meanwhile ar on board and the game connector is "tilted". If you wan't to connect a MIDI (like my YAMAHA TG20 :p ) you need something like an USB to MIDI IN/OUT converter = extra parts = extra more money for sellers to earn:rolleyes:

How do you mean, Tilted, Emma? Maybe I have a joystick connector on the motherboard or my soundcard;

yeah, it is an old joystick. I suspect then that newer joysticks are USB as well? Man. You can tell how long it's been since I've played a game using a joystick huh? :)

Ahhh... You are quite right Emma. :)

It was the soundcard I was thinking of, not the Video card.:o

Thanks for that! :)

LOL!!!

Me too!!!

When Roman was in that saucer last Tuesday night and I told him that Emma and Wigand were looking at the time into ways we could hook up a joystick to control the saucer he said "For this I would go out and get a new joystick myself!"

I agree completely! I think we all will if we can get this to work now in Shared Space!
