BTW, the modules for Espirit were on sale at 50 percent off. Got an email sometime this week about it. Forgot to mention it here.

Sorry Wizard, I somehow seemed to have missed your latest pic when you posted it. Man, what a great image, the composition is just perfect. I really love everything about it and I especially like the fine detail such as the birds on the roof of the Inn. Great work and look forward to seeing more in the future.

In your previous post you mentioned making trees, so did you create this beautiful tree using Vue? I like everything in this rendering, however the right ship/boat really didn't add anything. The little cat helps show scale.

Nice work all around.

A question: If you put all the objects in this rendering into a TS 7.51 scene and tried to render it would it choke?

Yes the tree was made in Vue. Vue 6 Pro Studio and the other higher priced versions include a plant editor module known as Botannica. This gives you the ability to make a great range of plants species - or modify existing species. Once you have a plant species you can use the awesome "Ecosystems" to make huge numbers of unique instances of the same species - in other words, no two plants are the same.

Re the 'Would tS choke?' question - I don't know - the vegetation adds a massive amount of polys but because the Ecosystem uses instances the program only 'remembers' one actual model of the species and uses that to reference it's calculations on the fly.

Some stats you may find interesting. This scene file contains 953 objects for a total of 33,189.073 polygons displaying 264 different materials.

Much of that poly count is derived from instances of vegetation - on the distant island there are 64 instances of minor buildings (many of which are actually hidden from the camera and 114 instances of trees.

Lighting comes from a single 'sun' and uses Global Illumination - the image rendered at 1600x1000 took just over 4 hours on my dual core Athlon at the highest predefined AA and quality settings.

For curiosity I removed all the Ecosystem instances and still had 22,982,324 polygon of 'real' geometry as opposed it 'instanced' geometry.

Re tS - I think that tS 7.5 workspace would happily handle that in real-time provided only one light source needed to be calculated. Additionally many of these buildings that I modelled in tS were used in my 'Afternoon Domes' picture which was rendered in tS with Lightworks using multiple spotlights and volumetric lighting so, whilst I can't be sure, I'm quite confident that a very similar result could be obtained from trueSpace.

@Froo - re "I really like your latest pic too. All that modelled and rendered in truespace 7.51? Cool!" Dude, you didn't read the fine print! This is a GI render made in Vue 6 - a few of the models are commercial objects from Cornucopia3d.com, the majority I modelled and originally textured in tS then imported into Vue - of course it doesn't matter whether the artist is left or right handed as long as folk like the picture he painted!

@TomG - Yes Tom, you hit the nail right on the head - that is exactly the story I wanted to tell with this - even down to the 'Universities'.:D

Thanks to everyone else who commented - and as James points out there is currently 50% off the expansion modules that convert Vue 6 Esprit into Vue 6 Pro Studio - a very good deal in my opinion;)

Very nice renders Wiz !

To your answer ... will the poly - count choke Truespace ???!!!

Yes it definitly will !

Workspace is much better them model side but your not going

to get it into TS !

By the way Kerkythea has a system like eco - system for instancing

so the closest you will get to Vue would be to use the free Kerkythea !

Plus you could use MLT (bpt) that lets you render highest poly count

with as many lights as possible and the physically nearest to reality !;)

Thanks Peter - although I have to say that since I got my new graphics card I've not actually yet succeeded in choking the workspace. My GPU is a GeForce 8600 GT with 512 mb RAM and it runs even my largest tS scenes with bloom, supersampling and full AA.

Part of my technique with tS scenes has always been to keep piling in the polygons till it starts to gag and render from there!

I have to say though that I'm getting close to being swayed by your powerful endorsement of Kerky - I just wish I had the time to check it out.:D

Wiz!

all I can tell you it doesnt take much time !

its very easy to learn and theres a very good getting started

documentation from the download section !

All you have to do is export 1 object after the other into a folder via

luuv plugin and use the merge function in Kerky to load them

back in again !

The objects are all in place from where they come from Ts !

Ad some materials and your finished ! Ad some light...

Then hit 1 of the render presets !

Heres a link to what amount it loads !

http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=37356#37356

http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/files/fletch_frolfer_691.jpg

I use vue with Kerkythaea TOGETHER very much because you can use the hdri and the trees etc. that come from Vue !

Dont know about pro version but Infinite exports realy well !

LOL - OK Peter - you've convinced me! I've had a brief look around the Kerky site and I'm intending to give it a try.

Unfortunately Vue Pro does not export much beyond terrains and I can't afford Vue Infinite.

I'm really keen to explore Kerky but have many other pressing tasks backing up. I'll let you know how I get on with it.:D

Meanwhile.....

Here's another Vue render - love the broody feel from the GI lighting. This is mostly made with freebies off the net and some of my own trueSpace models with my new urban streetlight mesh I made specially for this pic.

I really made this to fill in time until tS 7.6 is released. The though of going to all the effort of rigging my dragon and my new Tek-Knight character in 7.5 only to have toi redo them to take advantage of new 7.6 features (morphs cloth dynamics etc).... well this is a nice way to fill in the time until release.

As always, all comments critiques and compliments gratefully accepted.

Most excellent.

Looks to be an advertisement for environmentalists and the contention with dark, dank and polluted industrial sections of cities.

I like that a lot W!zard - obviously whoever oversees planning permissions/development control etc in this sector of the city needs shooting as it looks like it's been a free-for all in terms of styling! The proximity of buildings of different ages is uncomfortable - but sadly familiar!

I particularly like the (Victorian) derelict in the foreground (right hand side) - great textures, looks a bit like an industrial building my company is involved in trying to refurbish... Did you put all the textures together?

Cheers Nez - I put the textures together on the stuff I made myself, I also tweaked and chopped some of the textures on some of the free items. Re the derelict Victorian - yes they are great textures - it's an all round great model IMO but (sadly) it's not my work. It's a treasure I found while trawling through the Free Stuff pages at Renderosity. I DLed it to take a look and was most impressed with it - in fact the rest of the image grew around that building.

@RAYMAN - Thanks Peter - I'll PM you soon with a query or two.

Another really great pic Wizard. I particularly like the composition and the slight hazing effect you've placed in front of the far buildings to create a sense of depth. And of course, I like the red bus that draws your eye into the picture. By its 2/3 rd's positioning I'm assuming your a keen photographer?

LOL - Busted! I'm guilty as charged. My father was in the Newspaper industry and was a keen photog - I inherited his love of cameras. Prior to my first experiences with 3d art the camera was the main tool I used for looking at the world in different ways.

This is one of the best things about apps like tS and Vue etc - where a camera allows me to take photos of what's outside my head (the real world) 3d apps let me photograph what I see on the inside of my head!

In direct contrast to the last rather gloomy cityscape in this thread here's a more cheerful picture of the busy sea port town of Edisnova.

All foreground models except the partially obscured building at extreme left were built with trueSpace based (loosely) on a photo of the Estonian town of Talinn I found in Micheal Palin's book "Pole to Pole".

Some of thre distant buildings were also made by me using trueSpace - others are either models or mods of models available at Cornucopia3d.com.

This pic was my entry in their recent 'Imaginary Cities" contest - it didn't win anything but I thought I'd post it here anyway.:D

Hope ya'll enjoy it and as always, comments, crit's and compliments always welcome.

Another truly stunning image Wizard. The texture work and lighting is quite amazing. In addition, this reminds me so much of the old parts of Portsmouth Harbour (I was born in Gosport) which still look like this even today, right down to the ship and old fortress in the background.

Once again sir. You amaze me. Good job. But I can't help but think that all those ships are going to tow this place away like in the walkers advert...maybe you haven't seen that advert...

very nice scene wizard. I ended up returning vue myself because to do the fun good stuff I'd need to buy all the packs, then like a week after I returned it they had some sale half price on all the packs! doh! I am ok with bryce and carrara right now for landscapes, but I think vue does give better results. At least in your hands ;)

Thanks as always for the kind remarks folks.

@3dfrog - I have both Bryce and Vue but I didn't really take to the Bryce interface although it's certainly capable of great art. I'm a big Vue fan though - it's right next to trueSpace and The Gimp as my Favourite 3 apps.

@Breech Block - I actually (vaguely) recall spending a very pleasant sunny Springtime day in Portsmouth about 30 years ago:D. Seemed like a nice enough place - lots of historical interest too.

@Weevil - sorry Dude I'm not familiar with the walker adverts although your discription gives me the general idea.

Thanks again to all who commented.

Wizard, always nice to see super work.

I have one question about this piece. Did you render the background first and use the rendering as the background or do you have all objects in the original scene?

Without layers in workSpace I am running up against memory issues with my graphics card requiring me to get creative with techniques.

Hi Bob - I thought I'd answered this but i must have forgotten to post it! D'oh!

This is rendered in Vue and it's all geometry in a single render.

Since I got my new Graphics Card (with 512 MB onboard RAM) I've not had any memory issues.

I do as a matter of course use the Object Render Attributes to hide things but it's nowhere near as effective as Model side layers

Here's another rustic image for you all - I made it as an entry for the recent e-onsoftware landscape competition (although I eventually submitted a different version which for some odd reason totally failed to win!

Possibly a bit cheeky of me to post it here as the several tS components - the dewy cobweb, the castle and the butterfly's - have all been used before . It's just that Vue does such good landscapes to show off my trueSpace models in!:D

Comments, compliments and criticisms all greatly appreciated

As usual there will be a larger version posted at my Rendo gallery (linked in sig below)

Don't know which one you submitted, but this one looks great! like a painting. And I agree that the components in Vue make TS models look great. I think it's the atmospheric effects combined with easy instancing. I'm glad I have it.

I read the post that vue was on sale and I decided to purchase the Vue 6Easel (normally $100) but on sale at $49 and must admit that its the best $50 I have spend on software in my opinon. I don't know how to use it very well but the Truespace video tutorials on using it are excellent. Attached are some not so very good images, but I am just learning. Modeled the house in Truespace and imported it into vure to render. I'm not sure why the shadows are so dark, just haven't found the settings to modify it. My only complaint would be that Vue seems to render much slower that truespace does.

The trees alone are worth the price.
