You might have been asking about Virtualight, Kerkythera or Yafaray, as well as V-Ray, hence Jack's question. Answer would be dependent on render engine.

Tom G, Do you have any good settings for the Vray render engine for the exterior of a house? |

Just try provided ones, the detail of the exterior determines on the settings you need to adjust.
Do you know where the VRay manual got put?
It details what each of the settings do, and it gives visual examples too. |

For outside lighting, all you need is a single infinite light to represent the sun and to turn on GI. It's been a while since I messed with VRay, so maybe Prodigy can help you with specific settings. |

I don't - if I had specific settings I would have posted them for sure. I do usually find that there's no such thing as a generic "works well for all scenes" light set up, so it's always a matter of trial and error depending on your materials, your scale, your surroundings, your desired look, your desired time of day, etc.
As Jack says with GI you can start simple, and then just experiment to see what looks good with this particular scene. I find that with GI, it's usually pretty easy to get something that looks good, but this does depend on your criteria (ie what end result you are looking for).
