After you are done modeling using mirror modeler, how do you switch it off? so where your model is one whole piece. and so you can rotate your model and mirror model from a different angel?
should i always get rid of the faces, edges, vertices, that end up touching when switching mirror modeler on? |

The Flatten history tool will freeze the mirror. Also you can go into the link editor and click the remove mirror button on the mirror modeler mesh modifier brick inside the object.
I always delete faces and geometry along the mirror surface before mirroring, but I'm not sure it necessary. |

Yes, as Jack said the flatten history will work.

This should be incorporated into the tool imo. It's too confusing as is. |

you cant see the these faces when they are together when mirrored, so these hidden faces are deleted when the 2 mirrored objects meet right?

in jacks video of modelling the viper fish, when joining the tail and the body, you first delete these faces, and then start bridging faces to one side to another to make the body and tail one object.
do you want to get rid of these faces everytime, all the time? the only reason i see why you would get rid of them is because you simply wont see them..
will they become a problem further down the line?. . |

Internal faces will cause a seam if you are using SDS - when you apply SDS, the smoothing goes into the middle of the object, following the faces, rather than flowing across the seam.
Hidden geometry is also generally a Bad Idea, just in case you export later and it confuses the exporter, or importer, or other application. So, when mirror modeling, almost always you'll want to remove those faces, would be my recommendation.
HTH!

If you right click the Workspace's Mirror Modeler icon, with your object selected, it's preference panel will show in the Stack. You will notice the [X] "Remove mirror faces" is checked by default. |
