As always:

Okay guys, i try to explain with my poor english the next speed modeling challange.

Topic ! shave me ....

create a shaver with the following rules.

The rules (stolen from the smc #39) :)

1. Create the model(s) within the 2 hours time limit.

2. You may enter as many times as you like.

3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.

4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.

5. Post only one rendered image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you.

6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.

7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough (although no-one ever seems to bother...)

8. All entries should be posted to this thread and all comments should be posted in the comments thread. Thanks.

Face Mutilator
(400 horse power V-8 engine Face (cough) Razor
Was feeling totally in a funked mood, sort of a Mad Magazine type of mood, decided to get grenade volley ball wacko and make an V-8 powered face razor.

Phase I: Wire - about 1:20 . Time flies when you don't care. :D
(cylinders) (AI for the blades on front), Engine block was just sweeps and manipulation, some tessellation as you can see.

Phase 2: just your standard metal shaders from Model side. No subdivisions

Phase 3: Environmental lights from the 'kitchen (HDRI) (Lightworks) and some Multi-spec lights at low intensity.

Title: My first Shaver

Model Time: 2 hours 1 min.

I thought that since I had 15 min left for my 2 hours I would model a magnifying glass, but only got the lenz in before I noticed it was over.

Sunday and i find time for TS ;)

Okayy here is my entry that don´t come into the vote but i love to work with you guys.

Modelingtime around 1,30 std. Not enought time to make the model complete in 3D so i use more textures to let it look how it do.

Rendering around 3 MMinutes in VRay 4 TS

and a earlyer stage of the model

Renderingtime: about 6 Minutes

Postproduction: Photoshop, about 10 - 15 Minutes, Depth of field was done in Photoshop (I'm such a noob)

Disposable razors

OK, here's my entry, based on the disposable razors I actually use (Gilette Blue II Plus or something like that...)

I've taken a few minor liberties here and there due to time, (and left off the logo for copyright reasons!) but they do bear a passing resemblance...

Modelling: all done in tS7.6 model-side;

firstly produced the shape shown by (1) below using cube with added edges, some sweeps and then bevelling/sweeping to create the inset portion.

Extended with further sweeps, adjusting section as I went to get (2).

Subdivided at this point (irreversibly), extracting 'final' object which then underwent some serious 'slicing and dicing' with booleans to make the various parts of the handle.

Razor head is generally just a fairly simple assembly of altered cube primitives with some sweeping/bevelling as required.

Handle took about 75mins, head another 30mins, so complete in under 2 hours.

Lighting/textures: half an hour using a simpler test scene (just spheres and a ground object) to test materials and HDRI lighting - just used one of the inbuilt HDRI images, shaders are just straightforward in-built textures. First time trying this approach to the 'ground' using an aplha mask to 'dissolve' out... total time 30-40mins, including making the can of shaving foam and a custom texture for that (in PaintShop Pro).

Rendering - LW renderer took a couple of minutes whilst I went to get a drink. No post - too lazy... :o

Overall I'm pretty pleased with it.... nice to actually get some TS done and finished for a change, it's been a while.
