.. It's just a case that the scale of this discussion has been entirely unnessarsary.

Far be it for me to say that rules are rules. It is clear to me that you used Post Processing. Do you feel that rules are unecessary ? I've tried to bow out politely and will try to damper my opinions in the future.

As I've said, I consider everone my friend...whether they like it or not !!!;)

Actually it may suprise you that I used no post processing outside of Truespace for this render. If you want I can run through what I did to get the image I did

EDIT: Of course, I'll actually have to rebuild the presentation of it...I forgot to save that part

maybe i am wrong but isn´t this a speedmodeling challange and just for fun ?

For me it makes no different if anyone use the original TS rendering or a photoshop editing to make the result more attraktive.

For me it is a funny thread and just to see how other users solve the rules.

Guys see the smc as fun and to learn from the others :)

Now we're getting some where ! My appologies for being a jackass !!!:D If you can show me in a video (.wmv or YouTube) how you got your model to look so "dreamy" with dark shadowy lines surrounding the edges all inside of tS, It would be a big stepping stone for me ! Include your modeling technique too ! I'm always willing to learn !

Sadly I can't really show any videos atm, I've got a screenie of the settings I currently have for the render.

I have a feeling it may depend on the background, I'll need to have a play with that sooner all later, but it all relys on the "tone mapping" post process inside truespace and the material thats applied.

The material is the "multilayer paint" reflectancy shader, and you can see the settings I've got for it, and the tone mapping

and you can play around with my scene if you want to see the rendering. Possible i tweak the setting on the rendering for the smc. VRay is needed. www.wire-frame.de/bohrer.zip

Sorry once again, #30 there, now if you see it intack, please copy, open and paste. I messaged Norm to let him know my blunder. Yes I have the power ;) which I think I will ask Norm to revoked since it was based on not knowing how much the forums would have increased when tS was released for free back in June. Since then I rarely had to use the moderator priviledges and now I just messed up a post, yours . It would helped if I paid better attention, the Edit and Quote buttons for moderator are right next to each other.

I find it hard not to see the funny side of things

A mod in disguise, well... as much as I can remember is I talked of how I prefer modelling using subD instead of polygonal then applying it at the end

And the thing about post processing

Ah you are a good sport then . One great reason why I think these forums are so cool, great people.

Now my last image was 100% rendered by tS and was downsize and saved as .jpg using Paintshop Pro X2 only. I like to render big, in this case it was rendered 3200x2400. Dropped in size twice 1600x1200 and then 800x600. This gives good edges, easy to do. All post processing was done in tS, meaning just using the post processing capability inside of tS.

Now for my third attempt I am going to model a different drill, maybe my own creation, wouldn't feel like I would be meeting the intent of 2hr time line if I kept redoing the same thing over and over again.

...as you all no doubt know, there has been a lot of debate lately about what direction the SMC should take. Personally, I am not convinced its needs changing, but MikeJoel's recent “What is it” poll clearly showed the community though otherwise..

Well, SMC #40 has nearly run its course with just a few hours remaining for entries. I can't help but be somewhat disapointed by the lack of entries considering all the hoo-ha raised in the forum about the competition needing to return to its roots. 6 entries by 5 competitors is hardly a persuasive argument for change. And, before you all write in, thats just an observation - not a gripe. :D

One thing I will say though, I have been very impressed by the sheer quality of all the entries. The models themselves are quite terrific and it is going to be absoloute nightmare to decide who to vote for.

It was a fun one to do. I've made a start on other entries and gotten over the 2 hours on all of them, so it looks like I'm just a toy-maker. Not a bad slot to have really :D

lol, well my 3rd try got busted by time and didn't have time to do another one. I think I found some bugs so that kinda was good to pass on to developers. I learned alot which is the best prize of them all. I will probably complete and post in either WIP or Image section after the voting is done.

...aaaand they're off! Running neck to neck, they scream down the racetrack. One surges ahead, and then the other. Who wil it be? Who will it be?! :D

Great job folks. Yes Breech, it was hard to pick only one. Since I feel the SMC is about the 'model within a time limit', I based my vote on the modeling. I'll leave the pretty pictures to the MMC.
