BrotherX, why not post your object and have someone help you with texturing ideas. You could even post it as a "Challenge" for all to try. The only stipulation is the person must explain how they did it and supply the texture. This would help others with UV Mapping/Texturing problems too.

could do. model is only like 600k. Where could I post it? I can really appreciate why games companies often have people just texturing and lighting.

Either here or start a new thread asking for help. You can attach rsobj up to 2 meg.

I've attached the scene. i've not done too much in the way of texturing but if anyone could give me advice and pointers with respect to either/both directx and vray.

Thanks.

To be honest, i'm pleased that I managed to get 2, admitedly simple, models done....

Thanks for posting the object BrotherX.
I'm sure everyone will help out and suggest methods to UV/Texture this object. (I'll take a look tonight too)

That is why we are all here to help each other out.

BrotherX here is your Chocolate Fountain model.
This is what I came up with after studying it's structure. Do you like it?
Maybe it would be fair and wise to start a new thread about how to handle this object.
Just get me started and I'll add some info.

P.S. This is not an entry but a study of UV Mapping and Techniques.
100% TS
Edit:
I stripped out the model from the scene. I only worked on the object.
Kena's model actually looks like liquid Chocolate, were I was after a fluid caramel. I used alpha maps (clouds) applied to a
cylindrical U/V mapping. I've never really seen one of these but I would imagine Kena's texture looks pretty close. (Mine looks like a dirty birdiebath:o)

I also took a shot at this one for you BrotherX...

Whenever I do a render using GI, I always refresh with my "Larking About" (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3097) thread.
It has lots of good info.
Anyway, here is the scene back for you.

And the unmodified result.

Not sure what the deal is with the black band at the bottom of the first tier, but a quick session with GIMP, and it can be cloned out.

After seeing the result, I had to go get myself a piece of chocolate!
And now it's time for Ken to go to bed... Have a 2 hour drive in the morning.
HTH!

Wow nice entry Prodigy! Looks delicious! :D

I'm pretty sure I know how you made the whip cream part, but not as sure about the chocolate drizzle. It'd be cool to see a tutorial after 7.6 comes out. ;)

@ Georg, great job on the displacement shader. It has a very highend artsy feel. :)

Steinie, Kena,

Thanks for that. I couldn't figure out the line either and thought it might be geometry casting the shadow so I adjusted it and didn't get anywhere with it. I also figured it could be a normals problem...

Anyway, I really appreciate you guys looking at the model and sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

We had nice weather here, the first in ages and just had to go body boarding (mad waves...) and then went walking sunday...I am now very sore...

Cheers Steinie - I'll do that - although she may become annoyingly smug for a few hours as a result....

Mind you, if she does, I'll just go find some chocolate and say I'm researching to improve my skills... ;)
