Hi Steinie

Thanks for the spot light. My bug may a star for the moment but real star is the new PE tools. The mantis is a rather complex model, and I would not have been able to finish it in the 2 hours if not for the help of the new PE tools. At almost every step in making the mantis I found the new PE tool giving me power that made things easer and faster to do. I think this is why they picked it for there ad. It showed a fairly complex model made in 2 hours, and I credited the PE tools. A credit well deserved.

Examples

When I started I new I needed a cylinder for the body. But the ends of the default cylinder were not a good setup for sweeping out the neck and head. So I started with a rectangle that I subdivided twice. Using the edge selector I clicked-scaled, clicked-scaled,

and in 30 sec. I had a turned the rectangle into a cylinder. No running to the edge of the screen change tools. Everything right their where I am editing.

On the side of the body I need 8 sections; I only had 4 sections from subdividing twice. I did not want to increase the sections on the ends. So with the inference snapping guide set I picked the add edge tool and 4 clicks later I placed 4 new edge right in the center of the existing edges. Then click-scale-move, click-scale-move and the profile of the side of the body was done. NICE - that was easy.

When I was trying to learn some of the new tool I came across this copy tool in the point edit section. I had a square on the screen at the time so I picked a face click copy and moved the face away from the square. Wow that look good but what can I do with it?

As I continued to model the mantis I started to sweep out the rear leg. One again having the widget right their made it made a big difference, sweep-move-scale-rotate-sweep. When it was done it look good for a first take but s#*# ,I should have made both legs at the same time. I will never get the other leg to look just like this one. Then copy-move-bridge and I had a new leg in place faster then it took me to make the first one. The wing presented a challenge of it own. IF I tried to reshape a plane to follow the profile of the top of the body which needed to be done it would take much to of my limited time. Copy tool came to the rescue again. I just paint selected the faces on the top of the body then clicked copy, move it up clicked sweep to add a little thickness move it back down and I had a wing in place in less then a minute.

I could go on, like being able to rotate around what your editing with the dimension tool on you can control exact direction and amount of your editing or a select-click-sweep and I have all the bumps on the bottom of the body done. At every stage I found the new tool lending a help hand.

I do have one request. WE need a hot key to make the widget turn off and on. When you try to pick a group of points for editing that are close together the widget blocks you view making this very difficult.
