Ya, pretty much figured people would be a little busy, I will see how it goes over the next few days maybe an extension may be needed.

Oh yeah and it's also Easter weekend. So a lot of people will probably be traveling and have other commitments.

You picked a good topic for both creative and technical approaches. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the topic extended if we don't get enough entries by Saturday.

Gonna do a pistol for my first entry, but I'm gonna dig deep and pull out some kind of wild plasma cannon if time permits. :D

Good thing you posted a wireframe, Witch, I could have sworn that was photoshopped! Cough.

Jack: Try it again... I bet on your second attempt you get in under the two hour wire.

Thanks Spacekdet, yeah I was thinking that too. It's just not as much fun second time around though... ;) Got a rough sketch of a plasma cannon. Needs a bit more idea work on it though... Maybe I'll do a plain ol' rifle in the mean time...

Thanks. The shader is actually a bug/cheat. I set up a decent metal shader in lightworks (using enhanced metal) and then switched to vray. Normally in vray you cannot use enhanced shaders however setting it up in lightworks and then switching to vray seems to change the shader a little (presumably so it can be used in vray) and that's how the shader became.

Thanks for the complements Vizu :) I'm still learning the practical side of texturing. Theory certainly seems simpler than implementation...

@ Prodigy -- hey another gallery entry! :D Bet that one might even make it into the V-Ray promo material...

@ Matski -- very cool work and beautiful detail on your wire... but methink you used the evil boolean tool......lol you've gone over to the darkside....

@ Stickman -- great first entry! Very clean lines and construction. Nice render too.

lol evil? was good, though I did rush admitedly, I couldnt think of a better way to do the finer detail, so I create objects of the indents over the top of a photo and then subtracted from the model. I could have used Edges and just swept in, but then it would have taken much longer, and perhaps harder to get things in the right place. The model seems to have come out clean, so thats good heh.

By the way, is my first creation since losing a 3 month old hard drive and buying a new computer in grief

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.41ghz

2gb RAM

ATI Radeon X1950Pro

2 x 300gb SATA Hard Drives

Got a lovely monster here heh, obviously by modern standards this is proper an average machine, but better than my last one and only cost me £480 which included fancy case, dvd writer, motherboard and PSU

Hi guys some nice entries, not sure if I have time to enter as I have quite a few things on the go this week.

I also tried to add some DoF with Photoshop CS2 but the Lightworks Depth map didn't quite match the V-Ray render (any ideas why anyone?) so there's a bit of dodgy blurring here and there...

Blakeo, off hand I can't think of an answer to you question but This does sound fimilar, have you set up a camera and second window set to camera view?

I myself would go about this a little differently, I would blur the paper texture in Photoshop and then apply it to a plain in TS and not worry about adding DOF later.

HTH

Sounds like a really nice machine. We gonna see pics of the fancy case? :)

I certainly can't argue with the results of you mesh. And in the end it is about the results right? ;)
