He beat both of us to it, I had an idea to do an abacus as well, but by the time I'd got the idea clear in my mind & knew how I wanted to go about it he'd already posted his.

You too.....wow......it would be abacus heaven (though slightly noisy and occasionally riotous ;)).

lol. now I'm gonna have to come up with some kinda marble counter or something :)

Of course, there is the concept of actually modelling an ordinary calculator :)

Me three, or is it now four? Abacus was the first thing that sprung to my mind. Back to the drawing board... :-)

You dont need to explain nothing.. ;)

But i want to know if you realy take this as a ofence??

*IBRENT.. i told you :D

I've been around the internet so long that very little upsets me. I took your comment to be a genuine confusion, not a dig.

If you were being humoriuos, then I guess I accidently made the joke fall flat by answering the way I did. :D

To everyone else...

No, I didn't use a model, I did it from memory

and I'm glad I was "quick on the draw" because I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a second entry and have not succeeded.

I did spend 2.5 hours modeling a normal calculator, so I cannot put that one in. Maybe I will use it in one of my normal renderings.

lol. Just don't divide a mechanical calculator by zero. Burns out the motor :)

True story! One of the engineers I work with was around back then and he did it. Said it just kept running and running... then broke!

lol - after I posted that I had no other Ideas, I thought of that one, but since I cannot model organics that well, I figured I would just wait. Glad you thought of it to Steinie

Kena, I haven't used an Abacus since Third Grade so I'm not sure about this. Doesn't yours say 648890? I think you short changed a customer!

I still hear the clicking noises of those beads when we computed a math problem. To this day I still visualize those colorful beads of red, green, black, etc .

In College my instructor could beat the calculator with his slide rule on some equations. Nice entries.

My wife's "gestation calculator" must have been broke...I have 4 kids!

LOL - You know that thought just simply would have never occured to me! I too was initially attracted by the idea of doing an abacus until I realised that a sliderule was also a calculater and WAAAY easier to model!

Oh by the way I did try to divide my sliderule by zero and I haven't seen it since - good thing they give away electronic calculators at the bank or I'd have to learn how to use Steinies calculator!

I notice more and more renderings using 7.5. Has Roman said it is now ok? The suggestion was made long ago to start doing that and I'm glad it's happening. Nice rendering and modeling Hemulin. How did you do the card symbols on the keys?

Thanks Steinie, card symbols were modeled using nurbs curves that were swept.

Woot well if it's ok to do the speed challenge with the beta, that'll save me a ton of time. :D

I was under the impression that we had to use 7.11 for the challenges.

I use 7.11since that is what I have. I dont' have the beta version though I dont' see any reason not to use it if you have permission beyond testing it.

I believe any version is OK (as long as you have permission to use the beta for publically shown images, anyway). I've been using 4.3, so it's definitely not a case of 7.11 only.
