tS Speed model challenge #8 "Brush"
_________________________________________
I think this one should be interesting. There are tons of ideas that I can think of.
Objective:
Model any type of brush in under 2 hours. I can think of a dozen examples, but leave the decision up to you.
The rules:
1. Create the model in the specified time.
2. You may enter as many times as you like.
3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.
4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.
5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you and can include as many copies of the object as you wish.
6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.
**NEW - Optional**
7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough. The how sometimes is just as important, if not more, than the what.
Time limit - 120 minutes
Deadline - 13:34 GMT (8:34 EST) Wednesday 21 February 2007
Subject - Brush
Good luck and lets see lots of entries and lots of votes!!!
To quote my father, "There is no such thing as a stupid question", likewise there is no so thing as a stupid or bad entry. This is for all of us to have fun and improve our skills! |

I did have some time to sit down at my home computer this evening, and had an idea that I didn't think would take too long. Of course, my execution was a bit lacking... but so it goes. Anyway, here's a simple hair brush, modeled with a metaball construct for the handle and back, and polys for the rest. |

My apologies in advance for taking advantage of the English language (not sure what brush is in German or Spanish). :D |

Title = Dryer Lint Brush
Time spent = 32 min
Version = Truespace 7.5
Render engine = Lightworks
4395
I used Cylinder and Torus.
Copied Cylinder several times and rotated it to get the first layer, then copied it 12 more times
Copied the torus several times and moved each one up to stack on the other
Bent a cylinder to provide the inside end-point.

This is a high poly count brush of some kind... (my first entry in the speed model challenge).
Time spent - I'd say about 90 minutes - 40 for the first handle (scrap) and the initial fiddlin' with the trueParticles, 30 for the second handle (also scrap) and the finishing of the bristle and the last 20 for the handle in the image and fitting it together. I'm not at all organised and I didn't know what kind of brush I was making. :)
tS version - 6.6
Rendering engine - Lightworks
"Texturing" and "lighting" - 10-15 minutes
Rendering time - a lot! |

Had a DivO (Division Officer) in the NAVY that complained that this certain little blond female Lt JG made his teeth itch. This was his birthday present. Not so much a tooth-brush as much as a tooth-scratcher.

brush model time /w texture (all procedural) = 35 min
bathroom set / w textures = 1hr 0 min

decision whether or not to submit to the "contest" = 1 week
amount of sleep lost over all this = 00000.0004406

lol 3dpdk... ya beat me to my idea... but just in part :)
"A brush with the mob"
TS7.11
45 min to model (not really a lot to the mesh part... nails are identical but rotated/scaled. Mostly object placement work with blood drops)
1 1/2 hrs to texture/light/render.. much went into the asphault and blood puddle textures. |

Hi there - this is my first ever post to these forums... and also my first ever image post so that's a double first! I've used TS on and off for years - free version only - but have been seduced by quality of VRay and TS 7 so I splashed out :) TS7 is a bit of a jump tho...!
I didn't have time to completely finish the mdel. I'm not happy with the tops of the branches... but it's only a bit of fun eh? ;) Saying that - I spent hours trying to get the lighting half decent!
(I did make a clock for the last challenge also, but missed the deadline :( )
Anyway, here's my entry : |

Well, here's my unfinished entry, just to add to the numbers. I've got so many meetings in the next 24 hours I won't have any more time to spend on it before the deadline, so I've rushed on some textures and called it a day. Woudl have liked to spend longer as think this had some potential, but that's life.
Model: broom-bot.
TS version 5.1
modelling time: 1 hour
textures/lighting/rendering: 10 minutes
You can have a wireframe if you want, but it's all polys, so nothing exciting there... |

And another one: a technologically advanced (but unfinished) brush.
Modeling - 111 minutes
tS version - 6.6
Rendering engine - Lightworks
"Texturing" and "lighting" - 10-15 minutes
I know I'm supposed to only post one image, but I couldn't fit the wireframe in my render so I used this here thumbnail:
