haven't used TS in quite some time, never really go the hang of it. Obviously things have changed, thougth I'd check out 7.6, especially with what seems to be a sketchup import feature. anway, downloaded 7.6, seems to want to isntall into a seperate directory. Just wondering if I should uninstall 7.5 first.

thanks,

Larry

At one point I had TS7.5. 7.6 and a couple of different betas all on the same computer. It does not seem to effect the other installs, you only need to make sure each install has it's own folder.

Though I would have to say that there is little point in keeping tS7.5, so you may want to uninstall it just to save on disk space ;)

Note that import from SketchUp requires SketchUp Pro, as you need to save from SketchUp into OBJ format. That route was always open as an import option, even prior to tS7.6. tS however doesn't load the native skp format. The free version of SketchUp of course deliberately doesn't let you save out to other applications, but essentially keeps your models in SketchUp only.

The free tS7.6 at least lets you load and save with the full range of import and export options that the original $595 software had.

TomG - well that is what I wanted, some sort of confirmation that there is no reason to keep 7.5. Not sure what happened to TS, obviously a business/marketting decision to go free, but just wanted to be sure I don't loose anything by removing 7.5. In doing just 3d architectural modeling, I have never been able to understand TS - both its menu structure and basic useage...thougth admitedly I haven't tried too hard. I was even part of the pro program at one time and with all the help and videos, just not intuitive. I was able to get up an running with sketchup in hours and with a 3rd party rendering engine, have come up with wonderful stuff and yes, I purchased the pro version. Just thought since I had originally purchased TS, figure I would check it out and see if there are any benefits to considering it again.

The only reason to keep older versions installed is for plugins etc that 7.6 does not support ... e.g Gamepak

Hmm, almost all plugins should work fine under tS7.6 - that is one of the main reason for having the Model side still there. As far as I am aware, there were few plug-ins that wouldn't work (and if they don't work in tS7.6, they wouldn't work in tS7.5 either).

gamePak is a set of separate items rather than one plug-in. It wouldn't be surprising to find one or two that don't work, but most should. Let cust support know, or even open a thread on the forum, see what other gP users do.
