Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to apply BVH motions from the library onto my pre-rigged character. I know there may be a bones-naming proceedure that I need to follow to make the BVH work properly. But aside from that I can't figure out how to apply the motions to a rig.

I have the bundled libraries open. If I doubble click a motion or drag and drop it always inserts a new skeleton into workspace with the animation applied. But how to I apply it to a pre-existing rig in workspace?

Thanks... -Jeff

Oh, I couldn't find it in the manual, and a serch of the forum came up with nothing... which suprised me.

Been awhile since I've done it, but basically you add BVH to your animation as as a clip.

i.e. save the bvh as an animation clip to the library, then load the animation clip onto the rigged figure in a new scene. (drag ani clip from library to time line where skeleton is.)

There are some cautions though. If the rigged character doesn't have the same setup as the bvh it probably won't work. Like the neck must be called the neck, and arms called arms and etc.

Here's an old post by Mr. Bones, gives some insight.

Edit: Forgot to add that you can use a program like BVH hacker to assist you in modifying non-compliant bvh files. It's free and on the web, Google it.

Thanks for the tip. aahh... I should have thought of that. I'll give it a try. And check out the link, and bvhacker.

Thanks -Jeff
