Outside of collaboration meetings such as the animators meeting last night, is it currently possible for a couple of users to get together to jointly edit/ experiment in realtime, online.

Heres an example of what ideally I would like to do..

I have this idea that I would like to experiment with the interaction of a rigid body floor and an IK Leg rig.. Why... to automate the foot/toe roll as the foot touches the ground. To me this is a potential be a way to make a very natural walk cycle animation quickly and easily, once the viability of this approach can be established other than in theory.

But heres where the Collaboration comes in... I don't know the first thing about physics end of things in TS, so need to collaborate realtime with some that does.

Could someone point me in the right directionas to whether this type of adhoc collaboration is currently possible, and if so how to set it up

Obviously if this proves to be a doable animation approach the results would be posted for all to use.

Many thanks

IK Handel

I think the shared spaces are open all the time aren't they? In which case you'd make arrangements to meet your collaborator/s in say, the scriptorium at a convenient time when it's not being otherwise used. As long as you sweep up the floor and empty the ashtrays before you leave - ie leave it as you found it - I think you should be fine. If this is incorrect I'm sure someone well say so.

PS Thanks for the anim meeting summary - some good tips there. Igor you could have a future as a 3d virtual reporter!!:D

Hi IK. Yeah, the Shared Spaces are open 24/7/365.

Oh, I will take a look at the chapter involving physics and IK rigging; I believe you can assign physics to bones only (not the whole rig) as well
but gotta double check that. That way your whole mesh won't crumble to the ground.

Shared spaces don't just open at the meeting times posted, they are always there :) And you are welcome to drop in and use them any time, for any project!

Of course remember your project is public, so anyone can see it and even change it. Also, at the scheduled meeting times, the spaces in question will be given over to those meetings.

Yes, people can jointly edit and collaborate in real-time. With a robot arm, I can move the fingers while someone else moves the shoulder. With a shark, I can open the mouth, while someone waggles the fins. With a model, I can sweep out a few new faces while someone drops on new textures to it. With a scene, I can move the props around while the lighting expert adjusts the lights. I can model the geometry, while someone writes a script for that object. I can set up a rig for a character while someone tweaks physics settings. All in real-time for all participants. Pretty cool stuff :)

Excellent news.

Thanks for all the replies.

No probs I will bring my own ashtray and a bucket of coffee.. I'll stick the brush up my... lol, well you get the idea.

Tom;

Above all what impressed me and has got me so stoked about the online collaboration last night, was all the things you mentioned and many, many more, but also that it all worked so easily and smoothly. A real pleasure to use!

Wiz;

not so sure about virtual reporter lol, took up half the morning sorting that lot out,,, thats valuable TS learning time :( ..

But no, seriously I reckon meeting summaries might be an added bonus for forum members, and have the side effect of promoting even bigger participation, which after last night, I am all for! Alternatively might be worth screen vid capturing meetings... hmmm bit memory hungry that though.

Frootee;

I was going to get onto the TS test bench this afternoon, but got sidetracked watching a vid on UV editing lol.... Arg so much to learn and only 1 lifetime to fit it in :)

Igor - I hope this is something of a silver lining to the cloud of losing your job - imagine trying to master tS quickly AND working a fulltime job. You'll get there though - you certainly possess enough enthusiasm!!

Funny you should say that.

Only this morning I said to the missus (her who must be obeyed lol... yeh right) that apart from the alarming rate at which we are going into debt, I am really enjoying chilling out and having a proper relax. Iv'e only had 1 weeks holiday in 2 years, plus the odd 2 days here and there (to be fair mostly by choice), so other than the finances, in a sort of perverse way this is a treat for me. (not so sure it's a treat for the missus and daughter though)

Having said that, as a bit of a workaholic, it kind of feels guilty at the same time; strange situation, not used to this not working lark. Only ever been unemployed for 4 weeks in the last 27 years (apart from now)

I realised yesterday that in a way I am almost treating learning TS properly, as a substitute job. Each day I decide on some priorities of what I need to learn about in TS. OMG I am turning into an anorak lol (Am Laughing here).

Mind you I need to apply a bit more work ethic into not getting sidetracked when I discover yet another gem within TS..

To be fair I think I'd be going nuts if it wasn't for TS. I just ain't wired up for not being productive.

Ok on that note I need to head over to tech and feature suggestion threads for some more learning/ problem solving and a quick suggestion..... IE oops I messed with so many settings in the joints, IK and locks menus, now when something doesn't work as expected, I can't be sure what setting might need sorted.. And I can't remember all the miriad of default settings:confused: Arrghh need to get more focused and scientific about this... LOL Theres the anorak comming out again lol (trainspotter of the TS world lol :D )

Ok I am outta here, onwards and upwards.. (read that as oh no I never backed up the script to carry shortcut keys over for point editing, and I reckon I would be best to reinstall TS to get all my Skeleton building defaults back and start from a clean sheet..... doh)

Yours in good humour
