My opinion,
First, Parva made a excellent job.. I love it. Banana for you Marcel.
He told he will not participate.. so i don't find why all this discussion.
Parva's render is a clear example how good you can make a render.. just try to make it better in truespace ;) |

I dunno, but there is a lot to be said about using a plastic sheet on your screen and crayons... |

Crikey, away for a few days and pages of stuff to read....
My understanding of the original texturing challenge set by Kena was that - as with the other forum challenges - the main application used should be tS. It was originally implied that this should be through Vray or DX shaders, although modelside rendering was allowed after some discussion - i.e. the RENDERING was carried out 'through' tS using one of the available render engines.
Now as the modelling has already been done, you've got to 'ignore' that in your workflow, so where are you going to use tS as a major part of your remaining workflow? (if that's important to the rule-setter)
I see several possibilities -
You can apply materials and render through tS using one of the 'directly available' render engines (which would include using Dribble or Yafaray as well as the above (doesn't mean you have to UV map or create texture maps in tS though)
You could (arguably) use external renderer/materials like Kerky - but as this removes need for tS from the workflow, I would think this option is only 'fair' if you use tS to UV map your objects....
Or you could just do whatever, in whatever applications and not worry about what was done where and just enjoy the challenge....
Like Steinie, I don't really mind what approach is taken - I can see the various points. I don't see much sense in the 'purist' approach of doing absolutely everything in tS as this isn't how 'professionals' would approach work - as already stated, a range of apps is appropriate for almost all work - but this is a tS forum and it would be good to see tS used as a major component. For me, the main point is 'transparency' - tell us what you did and how, show us some tips or techniques; I don't really care what applications are used as long as I can learn something from it....
But it's down to the rule-setter for the final word (and can change challenge-by-challenge anyway). |

I think your right about renderers like Kerky, apart from converting the scene to 3DS/obj TS just wouldn't be needed, a render system that is set away within TS I can't see a problem with. The bike I did was modeled and textured in TS, the only kerky materials where the metal surfaces, so the bulk of the work was in Truespace, but plonking a pre made model into it is pushing the rules just a bit, you could do the same with Bryce, Vue etc |

Exactly - I think Kerky is ok for SMC/MMC where the modelling etc would be tS, but this challenge should probably be different as the modelling is 'pre-done'... |

Just so you know, I have been working on this one. I finished the reel mower and now working on the other objects.
The biggest problem is if by a miracle from above I should win I don't have models to submit for the next challenge...
That might cause others not to participate too.
So can we use the free objects located here at the Forums for the next challenge as a choice?
P.S. Where are all the entries to this one? CHICKENS!!!:p:D |

No, I'm not putting chickens in the scene, it's a garden, not a farm :D
I'm working on mine. :p |

I might be joining in, I'm messing with YafaRay and using the scene as a test bed, I haven't got a clue what I'm actually doing though! Workspace is completely alien to me.. I'm at the sod it stage already and ready to go back to cuddley ole model side lol
I agree about the future models, I haven't got anything I'd really want to share, most are designed to face one way or over complicated to avoid mapping |

I finished mine early this morning ! I just need to organize my texture techniques for the WIP. Everything was done in trueSpace...modeling, Texturing, and Rendering (LightWorks)....after all, it is a trueSpace Challenge !;):) |

Same here, this would be a great testbed to get a feel for YafaRay4tS plus have some fun as well. Just loaded up YafaRay4tS and very impressed with what the YafaRay4tS team has accomplished! So I think I will enter as well. |

Parva..can you do your grass technique in MS?
MS? You mean Modelspace?
The grass is composed by several planes, scattered around a half sphere.
Attached is the ts6.6 scene with the diffuse and alpha texture of the grass I used.
The shading of the grass depends of the render engine.
If the engine supports Subsurface Scattering you will surely get a more realistic look.

Thanks Parva. I will tinker with this and see how it all works. I have Dribble and it does SSS. |

Just to remind you all.
A little over a week left before the deadline of this context. Some great entries already, but there is room for more .
Show us your talents!

Gonna try and post something over the weekend, although not as a competitive entry as I just don't have the time to start and WIP and explain it all. :o
The image is really just to show support for what is a great challenge and a way to say "thanks Georg," for the really terrific models. |

Working on this now. I just noticed that the models are at about 10x scale. So if you're planning to use YafaRay or VRay you may want to scale the models by 0.1. ;) |

Here is a link to my image, but like I said, it is a non-competive entry.
