Hi Steinie, Yes I think these threads are nice to have. And it would be nice to keep a positive thread going.

Last night I came on here and I saw that there were 2 more pages of comments i get to read through. I'm not so much opposed to people writing negative comments. But this was'nt just negative comments that bothered me. I was the fact, like you said. two guys going at it for two pages worth the arguements.

It is like I said, I see something positive, I try to keep to the same manner if I choose to reply. I see a negative thread, Then I voice my opinion in regards to the thread topic. that is even if I have an opinion.

I havent been on the TS forums for very long and already I almost feel like i walked into a cage of lions. I felt like that when I posted the "Caligari's future"

thread which was a big mistake that I will not do again. I just don't want to feel like im starting arguements of any kind. I feel if people have such negative feelings about TS, that is fine and all. But keep them in the rants and raves forum and don't turn a completely positive thread to crap.

Thanks for mentioning about the hotkeys Steinie, Now I have one question. How do I set them up? :)

I've been looking for where i can set them but hav'nt had any luck yet.

If you Control+Right Click on a tool in the Workspace, a dialog will pop up that will allow you to set a hot key for that tool.

Dare I venture an opinion? Of course I do!

The thing I always loved about trueSpace since I started using tS 3.2 was the interface. My first attempts ended in frustration and disgust because I hadn't yet got my head around the Interface Philosophy as it were. I, like many newcomers, convinced myself that tS icon driven interface was not as easy to use and learn as a more traditional menu driven one.

Of course this is just a head trip which I soon realised - it's still clicking an area of screen regardeless of whether that area is delineated by an icon or a word (which is really just an icon in disguise). Anyway, once I got accustomed to the IU design I loved (and still do) tS 3.2.

Then when I upgraded to tS 5.1 I initially gave up in frustration and disgust because it was more complex than tS3.2.:o . Eventually though I learned how to get the results I needed from the 5.1 (and later the 6.6) interface.

You can probably guess what happened when tS 7.x was released - yep, more frustration and disgust because I hadn't yet got my head around the UI design philosophy.

Now that I have got a grasp on the design philosophy (thanks in a large part to Jack Edwards brilliant Organic Modeling course) I find the circle has closed once again.

Each incarnation of tS initially struck me as absurdly designed - until I understood how to use it at which point I found myself sitting in awe at the subtle and brilliant design behind the UI. The same thing applies to Workspace - damn I just love using that modeling interface - I can do it all in a vibrant glowing realtime 3d display and the way the various tool groups fly out when you roll over them is one of my all time favourite workflow improvements.

My sympathies go out to Transient and others who find the workspace tools problematic - personally I don't have a problem with them (though I'm looking forward to better IK solution).

Roman used to say that User Interface design is the new artform of the 21st century (or something like that) and I agree - I now believe from considerable personal experience that the tS 7.6 Workspace tools and overall user interface are a genuine masterpiece.

I've downloaded 3.2 and was completely stumped with it. As you said, the icon based UI threw me off. But then I got into other programs such as milkshape which i did'nt care much for. I tried blender but that just blended brain cells and gave me a headache lol. I was very new at the time and was just as frustraited with other programs as I was with TS 3.2 .

Not long after the Game creators started selling Gamespace. i've looked into it and tried the demo. At first I did'nt take to it, so i uninstalled the demo and continued to look for other editors. I've tried just about every free 3d editor you can find on the net. Some were better than others, but in the end it all comes down to what is compatible for use with Darkbasic Pro. Which only really supports direct X and DBO..

Anyway after having no luck for an editor that can model + animate other than Blender the brain bender. I've decided to buy gamespace sinse DBpro did support it. At the time they were having a deal on it for 200 bucks. I figured that sinse im paying for it, It would be a waist not to learn the program, I thought it would take awhile to learn...It actually took no time at all after watching the 3d buzz tutorial that was for it. I reallized it was the best 3d editor that i've ever used. It has become my choice editor sinse.

For me it was the same with workspace, it looked new, the feel is different. But it really did'nt take long to figure out how to use it, Im still learning new things about it. But so far there is so much about it that I like, chances are I won't be using the model side for editing very much any more. The stability of it has already won me over to it.

The first time I tried TS 7.6 was on a pent 4 , 1 gig ram, geforce 6600 256 mb. it did run but was very slow and unstable for me.

I upgraded to a pent dual core 1.8 ghrz with 2 gig ram, geforce 9600 gt 512 mb, now it runs with a breeze for me. :)

I can say this as we are amongst friends here - I thought 3.2 was the most bug ridden piece of rubbish I ever used. It always seemed to fall over when rendering! I only upgraded to 6.6 because a) there was a trial/demo to play with which seemed to work fine and b) I didn't think it would be possible that the program was still going if they didn't iron out the bugs.

There is much which is great about workspace - easy allocation of preferred shortcuts (as mentioned above) is one thing. It really is a case of the more you use it the better.

Other projects and things going on in my real life are limiting my 3D stuff at the moment but I can say when I do have some time for it its workspace I mostly head to because I'm still learning. I wish I had a big block of time per week I could dedicate to the scripting side of things. That really does seem to be a great strength of this version of tS and some of the stuff coming out of the garage lately is very exciting.

Well yes I can't argue with that! It was... somewhat tempermental to say the least. I still loved the interface however and found the rendering to be less buggy than the software I'd been using previously (Anim8or).

This is another reason why I love the workspace - so much more stable!
