There's always that time when the kids are supposed to be in bed... but you would have to first get them in bed so you can leave. :D

Having taken a few trips before, I can tell you that they never sleep...they just get tired of you catching them swapping rooms in the early hours...:o

So marcel, did you ever find what you were looking for after all that walking? :D

splinters, understood. On trips like these, rarely is any of the time your own. But there ya go; a few guys from the area willing to see ya. Maybe we can meet at one of the places of interest your group will be visiting and take it from there (any chance to revisit the Metropolitan Museum of Art... I take. Also, Museum of Natural History. Awesome places).

Anyway, the invite is open :)

For my out of town school trip the teachers paid the hotel for an obviously android, or steroid based, security guard... bed time was 11:00... we were all asleep early....

or tell them if they are awake after 10:00 there will be a required walking tour of the lower east side (never been there but I see it in TV police dramas a lot) ....

or ask a New York City Police Officer to tuck them in... should take about 2 minutes (I met a few in New York.... nice people, well at least for ex-army guys :D)

Firstly guys, sorry for not taking you up on your offer to meet. It was pointed out to me that it might be a child protection issue (I know; world's gone mad-meeting people who had not been 'approved' to join our trip) but also there was no time in the schedule to meet anyone. Most days I couldn't even grab a coffee on my own!

We got a lot done and I am sat here nursing very sore legs and blistered feet.

Weather was excellent but 18 hours a day on foot taking in much more than should be possible made the whole experience somewhat 'surreal'

I wil post some pics just as soon as I sleep off the jetlag.

Thanks again for all the kind offers to meet up. I am glad I did not make arrangements as I would never have been able to make any meetings...:(

You need to graphically implant Doris in the photos, so she could be part of the New York experience. :D

Have a great trip Splinters.

They're concerned about "child protection" but they're sending kids to New York? Something wrong with that reasoning.

The mind boggles but never mind...done and dusted now.

Trip was a success, no one lost or hurt and we all got back safe and sound with lots of pics.

splinters, Wonderful to read you folks had a good time, and everything worked as it should (blisters will soon go away; the memories will last forever).

Very understandable about meeting. I figured you would have your hands full.

(Doris idea is cool btw :) ).

Couldn't believe how quiet the road was outside our Hostel at 8am..reminds me of Vanilla Sky. I realise these are all missing 'people' from our visit but, without parental permission, I cannot show any of the photos with students in.

It reminds me the movie "i am a legend" with will smith when there is nobody on the street of NY. Caution should be exercised during the night :D

Actually it's genetics. Folks from the British Isles have a tourist gene. Prior to the invention of the camera this gene expressed itself as an empire. Some historians are convinced this was a genuine effort at total global domination not realizing that the British are simply very friendly and like to meet new people.

ah... my medication has arrived, more on this later.... :D

Statue of Liberty! I saw it once. The pedestal was open to visitors and back then you could go up in the statute too. Too late in the day for me to go into the statue though. Was it open to visitors when you were there?
