Hi all,

It's with pleasure that I announce the Space Navigator 3D mouse from 3Dconnexion now works with trueSpace!

We'll be putting up a main banner and web page about this soon. Meantime, you can grab the driver to make your Space Navigator work within tS from the new labs page over at 3Dconnexion (the page itself ought to be of interest to tS users, with its emphasis on new and emerging technologies, and its requests for feedback):

http://www.3dconnexion.com/labs/

Of course the Space Navigator already works great with several other applications, including Virtual Earth, and we know that some users have been hoping for this for a while - here's looking at you, Paul Woodward! ;)

More good news from 3Dconnexion - the winner of each category this month (Image, Animation and Virtual Earth) will be receiving a SpaceNavigator SE (you'll have the choice of the other products too, the Space Navigators will be a prize for the winner in each category no matter what else they choose).

Again will be updating the web pages to reflect that today, and our thanks to 3Dconnexion for both the development of their driver, and the sponsorship of the contest!

Well, too bad for me, I guess.

As a winner for December, I am one month too late to have won VRay and one month too soon to win Space Navigator.

Perhaps you can arrange a swap?

I heard Tom can be bribed with Granola and chocolate bars. :D

Actually as a winner for Dec, you would still be entitled to V-Ray I believe, since it was on the contest page in Dec offered as a prize. So long as you don't currently own it, you should still be able to select it - January is the first month where it is not offered as a prize (and that's for the results released in Feb).

I'll check with Customer Support to see if my understanding is correct, can you email me direct and I can let you know the final decision?

Thanks!

Tom

Wooooohoooo!!!!

Great news and I must thank Tom for keeping me in the loop about progress with this.

You really should order 50 or more and get your logo on them (free) in fact get them labelled as the

trueSpacenavigator....:D

This works brilliantly and is soooooosmooth. Once I figure out how I will post a video of it in use.

I do have some issues and have let 3D connexion know them-mainly the ability to rotate around an object while in PE mode and the ability to use it in FPN mode.

This is however, brilliant news.

One thing though...as someone with unused prize credit (from when we had such a thing) and having claimed no prize for being runner up a few months ago...can I claim one as a prize for my school? Educational value and all that...

you would have to contact customer support for that one. They have all the answers on claiming prizes! :D

And every time I've sent them a message, it gets answered within 3 business hours.

Got all excited about this. But then when I tried to installed it I couldn't get it to work:( It turn out to be a conflict with the trueball.tsx that I use to make the space navigator work in the modeller side. Once I'd removed trueball the new plugin worked fine. But of course now I have to choose whether I want to use the Space navigator in modeller side or workspace but not both! Modeller wins everytime :(

Nice one boys! another kick in the teeth for the good old modeller:(:mad:

If i try to follow the link http://www.3dconnexion.com/labs/ i will be re-directed to a german site. No driver - it doesn't work. :-(

Dont know about the redirect, I would contact 3Dconnexion and let them know, in case this is not deliberate on their part. Everything works normally here and no-one else has reported this at present.

The tS driver is at

http://www.3dconnexion.com/labs/profile.php?id=32

Since you have to go through an agreement, you'll need to be on the page and click the button, can't give a direct link to the download file itself.

As I am very new to trueSpace and already have a SpaceNavigator I am very happy to see that this is now supported! I still get a bit crazy with the navigation in tS, so I hope this will be better for me, now. I will test it today! :)

I have the same problem. I am redirected in a french site without The doawnload link. I think it is because the driver is only english at this time.

I have no problem to sea the english version of the site when i use anonymouse.org . I am not redirected.

For all who have problem here is the direct link:

http://www.3dconnexion.com/labs/3dxtruespace76_v0-1-4278_win32.exe

And the manual installation:

1. Launch 3DxtrueSpace install program;

2. Start trueSpace;

3. Open Package Manager;

4. Right-click in Package Manager and select "Install New..."

5. Browse to the default 3DxtrueSpace installation directory "\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Plug-In for trueSpace 7" to select 3DxtrueSpace.rsx and press "Open";

6. A "3D Mouse Package" entry will appear in the Package Manager window. Right-click on this entry and select "Load";

7. You can now use your 3d mouse to move cameras in your trueSpace scenes.

I am looking into it but, if a verbal description might help, it is a six axis controller.

1. Upon opening a scene I can use it to raise or lower my eye level and zoom in and out of the scene, panning left and right and even banking.

2. I can use this with the rotate part of the widget to spin and object around while navigating around the scene. Imagine clay on a potters wheel while a camera swoops in and out. All silky smooth and without taking your hand off the mouse.

3. I used Marcel's skin scene and was moving the light around the object to see the effect while moving around the scene.

Works great but, as I said earlier, there are a few things I personally would like:

The ability to rotate around an object/face etc. while in PE mode.

The ability to lock the functions to the FPN mode so I can navigate around a scene but actually move up stairs etc. rather than moving through them.

Fantastic addition to TS though and I have now dusted off my SpaceNavigator again. Shame about the conflict with the truball.tsx though.

Madmouse, do you have the same problem with the bridge off?

How much is this thing? I would like to use this for NLE as well! Would it work like a AVID machine scrubber?

You will get all information here. There are also some videos showing the space navigator in action.

Wow! Just installed it and it is working very well. Now I am more happy with the navigation in tS.

But it´s working in the workspace only. I would like it will work in the model view also.

But anyway, I am veeeeery happy with it. Thanks for supporting this! :jumpy:

It always has worked in model side...via the truball.tsx plugin. Problem seems to be running them both; but I am yet to try this with bridge off.

Ideally of course, this would work in both sides but that is perhaps asking too much when we already have a solution and model side os being 'phased out'.

Can you rotate objects using the truball.tsx plugin? As is stated in the 3D Connection 'readme' file:

USING 3DxtrueSpace
---------------------

In this version, you can move and rotate the view camera as a camera in the 3D 'Workspace' tab.
No other tabs or functionality are supported.

Being able to select an object and then rotate it independently of the scene (as is shown in the puzzle demo) would have made the purchase worthwhile.

The trueball tsx is Model side only, and won't work at all in the workspace side. I'm unsure what functionality the trueball.tsx offers on the model side though, I think it was just camera control, but never used it - an owner would have to comment!

It works exactly the same as the workspace side but a R-Click of the icon opens up a menu to adjust sensitivity for each axis.

However, don't install both of these; caused me no end of problems and I had to restore the config...:(

Thanks for the warning splinters. Lets hope an interface that allows object manipulation is being written (c'mon Microsoft). Otherwise the tS7 widget works better to pan around the object - or, with further experience with my spaceNavigator, just as well.

Just a note that neither Microsoft nor Caligari develop this software, it's entirely done by the Space Navigator manufacturers, 3Dconnexion. Let them know what features you'd like to see - that's what their new labs page is about, where the tS driver is listed, so be sure to take the time and let them know! They'll be interested in all such feedback on what functionality and improvements could be made.

Thanks!
