The Sims Game program (Community)
The Sims Game program // CommunityfattsDec 11, 2000, 9:15am
I have seen the Sims program were one can build somewhat like in AWs but I
have not used it yet. Has any one had a chance to use the program and if so is it like AWs when it comes to building? Could it in a small way be like AWs offline but with a save setup? I have dropped two of the three worlds where I have been building because of poor management and or just a do not care what happens attitude by the owner(s) or overseers. I now only work or build on AW when it is working LOL and I would like to be able to build like with AW offline. If the Sims is a no go is there another program what comes closer to AWs? Thank you Mac mac4tbh at hotmail.com eepDec 11, 2000, 1:29pm
AW:
genre: multi-user (chat) level editor multi-user fully 3D 1st- and 3rd-person views fine control over object placement The Sims: genre: RTS (real-time strategy/simulation) single user 3D avatars (sims) and some objects isometric view w/4 rotations and 3 zoom levels 4-direction object placement While interesting, The Sims in its current state isn't much competition for AW. A multi-user Sims IS in the works but it'll be a while (perhaps a year) before it's released or even in beta testing. It's kinda similar, but not much. Read below and I'll explain it to ya.
*btw, this is assuming you are talking about the game The Sims. I was kinda confused about how you intertwangled game and program, sorry* > > Has any one had a chance to use the program and if so is it like AWs when > it comes to building? Could it in a small way be like AWs offline but with a > save setup? Basically, you get an object bank of walls, furniture, floors and such. :) The main window with the layout of the ground or of your unfurbished house is put into grids. :) You drag an object from the bank and place it on empty grids if the size of the object can fit into it. :P You can't texturize or create furniture or anything though. You have to download a separate program to make your own textures for walls and floors and avatar clothes and faces, but that's the extent of it. :) You can't create your own avatars (structurally at least), or furniture, and there's no object actions or descriptions you can create. > > I have dropped two of the three worlds where I have been building because of > poor management and or just a do not care what happens attitude by the > owner(s) or overseers. > > I now only work or build on AW when it is working LOL and I would like to be > able to build like with AW offline. I wouldn't know. :) The Sims is VERY different in its building interface and its options, but if you want entertainment until AW is back up, buy The Sims. :) Millions of people didn't buy it for no reason. :) Nornny > > Thank you > Mac > mac4tbh at hotmail.com > > > fattsDec 12, 2000, 10:08am
Thank you EEP and NORNNY for the info on the game "Thesims", It was not to
replace AW but I have fun with. When a game does not have a demo it tends to tell me that it is lacking in some way or then that it is so good a demo is not needed LOL. Thanks again Mac / Fatts [View Quote] kahDec 12, 2000, 2:34pm
It sure is a good game! The graphics are better than AW, because even with
my '97 edition 4mb 3D-accelerator, it still gives me superb 3D! KAH (a happy owner of The Sims) PS. You should also get the expansion pack, Living It Up (Living Large in the US), I don't own it, but a friend does, and it's has many great new things! [View Quote] crazy glue ilDec 16, 2000, 1:44am

I have been checking out web pages that support the Sim and it seems that
there are lots of them and they offer all kinds of goodies even plants. I think I will sell my test gear since I have been retired for ten years now and get the game and the add-on pack. I dropped hints to the grandkids but not a one got the game for me and after I have repaired tons of things for them all... I just don't get any respect! Thanks again to all for the info. Wrong, I use Outlook, and this clearly is another thread that you've
started. :) You can edit the subject of a thread and still get it into the same thread where the topic was started. This has a different name, but was started as a whole new thread also. At least, that's the way I see it in my Outlook. :) Nornny [View Quote] nornnyDec 18, 2000, 9:50am
oh, I just got the add-on pack as an early Christmas present yesterday, and
I must admit, the new features are something else. :P In AW related features, you can create your own objects, AND new actions for the simmys. Heck, The Sims creators even created a program for them to use, now is that nice or what?? :) Actually, Maxis, especially in this game, has always had strong ties to the community that plays their games, posting in their BBS's, joining for chats and THEN posting transcripts for others to read, letting the readers know FIRST what they're up to, rather than from rumors. And just in general, adding and adding and adding. Heck, each week, The Sims website is updated with a new goody you can use or read. :) And a lot of what they put up is what the majority of the people requested. That says a lot, and it doesn't even seem as a hassle, but more of a fun activity down in Maxis. :) It shows off even with the extreme expertise of the "fan sites" down in their Chat/BBS/Fan section. :) And most of those HTML masters are just as young as the majority of AW users....food for thought.
