Okay, a few things here.
1. MANY of AWCI's objects are public domain and distributed via their
website. (AW, colony and COFMeta obs). However, they can only use the aw
path as a whole (objects.activeworlds.com/aw) and not say the colony path
(objects.activeworlds.com/colony).
2. If the objects dont belong to AWCI, theres grounds for legal action if
the objects arent made public domain by the author.
3. Its possible that someone actually went through the painstaking task of
recreating an object with their own code.
