Hi All,

I've got a slight problem with my Windows Update.

I'm using Windows XP and apparently the Windows Update program has a new version. It tells me to click Update Now so that I can update the software and install it. I click it and wait about 1 minute and it goes back to where the 'Update Now' icon is. I've tried the MS Websites; found nothing.

Anyone else having or had this problem and know the solution?

I've had a lot of problems with www.windowsupdate.com doing something like
this. It'll say "Preparing for download" and one hour later it's still
preparing.

I have seen similar behavior caused by script blocking programs like NIS, STOPzilla or Popup Stopper; if you run anything of the kind, temporarily disable it and try again. Also WU requires cookies so check if a program or the web browser itself blocks them.

Ok, I haven't got any of these programs running, but I did have my cookie security settings set up to 'High'. But this usually wasn't a problem when running normal Windows Update and updating my computer. Maybe it needs cookies for this software upgrade though, dunno.

I'll let you know.

Ok, I've tried this, put my cookies right down to low, overridden the cookie handling for the site, added it to trusted and nothing...

I start off with http://www.anduin-lothario.com/temp/snapp001.jpg
It comes up with this update software thing http://www.anduin-lothario.com/temp/snapp002.jpg
I click Update Now and I get http://www.anduin-lothario.com/temp/snapp003.jpg
For about a minute it sits on there, doing something and it goes right back to http://www.anduin-lothario.com/temp/snapp002.jpg.

Strange stuff!

Some more ideas that you can try:
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files right click Update Class, remove. This will force the WU AX to redownload
Delete C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate
Tools/Internet Options/Delete Files check delete all offline content.

Btw it's obvious you are upset, your screenshots have an extra p :)

in internet options (the advanced tab) make sure that either TLS or SSL are
checked....

also try checking or unchecking "http 1.1 through proxy servers"
