Ok.....I have a major problem but maybe not too major:)

When my soundcard is installed...my NIC card wont work....and when my NIC
card is installed...my sound card wont work.

The sound card is an Ensoniq PCI
The NIC card is an ethernet card like used with cable connectivity.

Any pc gurus out there want to take this challenege on? I'm thinking this
might be something with irq conflicts or i need to adjust something in bios
or cmos settings?
Thanks in advance:)

Thanks Tyrell:)

I have a webcam plugged in that wasn't working either, I'll try removing it
and see if that helps.
I also noticed I have a netword card and dialup adapter in properties and
I'm thinking I don't need the dialup adapter since I'm on radio
connectivity.
I know...what a mess...LOL!

Try to go into yoru System Control Panel--> Device Manager to see if there's
a Yellow Exclamation point beside either your NIC or Soundcard.. whichever
one isn't working. If there is, it's probably an IRQ problem that you can
fix right in Windows by going into its properties--> Resources and changing
the IRQs or Basic Configuration around.

What PCI slots are they in? (They're numbered from top down)

Having a device in both 4 and 5 is generally a no-no.

Most BIOS SAY you can change IRQ settings, but 90% of the time (by experience) they don't work.

As Tyrell says, go into BIOS and power down everything you don't use.

LPT1, COM1 and COM2, onboard sound, onboard video, SCSI, all that extra junk you don't use. And clear out all those extra drivers
that might be floating around in Windows.

Why not save some effort and try to correct the whole problem before
resorting to switching devices? :)

I was having the exact same problem at first. I thought I had it fixed, but
all I did was make my computer crash all the time. It was because my GeForce
2 was sharing an IRQ with my NIC. I was pretty much out of IRQs. I looked
though my BIOS, disabled some IRQ setting, and made some devices move to
diff IRQs. I also disabled stuff in control panel. Disabled USB crap I
don't, com ports (network printer), and just about anything else I didn't
need. The problems ceased right after a reboot. ;-) Hope it helps ya...

Thanks everyone!
I will attempt anything to try and get some sounds back.
Is there anyway to tell if these things are or are not being used?
I know some show the name of the card etc, but if it doesnt show a
manufacturers name does that mean it's not being used?
Ya'll have been a great help!
Thanks again!:)

This whole deal brings up an excellent point. When in the hell is someone gonna figure out that in the olden days you COULDN'T run
out of resources, in particular IRQs, and now it's all too easy to (I'm 100% OUT using just video, sound, modem and both IDE
controllers, leaving me with a disabled LAN, that's TWO PCI slots in use, and I paid for 5)

No, it has nothing to do with it... If an IRQ is being used by 2 or more
devices, it will have the device name inside the Conflicting Device List on
the Resources tab in the property window. Lol... that was a mouthful. :)
To get the property window, just click on the object and click the
Properties button in the Device Manager. If you didn't already know...

That's how you can tell if an IRQ is being used or not.

Well...did the irq thingy in Bios and no go.
Tomorrow morning Vid card changes places with audio card and I let her fly
out the window if that doesn't cure it....LOL

Can you change the IRQ's in Windows? Sometimes Windows is touchy about that
sort of thing.
