Know what would great? (Wishlist)
Know what would great? // Wishlistmpl knightJan 31, 2006, 2:56am
Over the years I have posted my own wishlists on the website with
contributors like Gwala and Cybernome... but this time is different. This time I have a wishlist for things that are already included in the coming release. Instead of completely new things, just minor additions to functionality for coming additions. 1. Mirrors: Had this wish for about as long as I've used AW. My *very* old wishlist had the same wish, but also an idea on how to implement them in a non closed architecture like AW. Mine and Gwala's thought for this was to create Zones so the mirror would not reflect things outside of the small area defined. Now that AW 4.1 will be implementing the use of Zones, adding the ability to create a mirror in this zone would be a great addition. Kind of like semi-compiling a node. 2. Cross server compatibility: When we load up Explorer or Firefox to view a website, we are not prompted to download another copy of Explorer or Firefox if the website happens to be located on a different server. One copy of the browser should be enough to view all AW content. This also would propagate AW as a standard in this type of media. 3. Desktop Mode: The Standalone option with the browser creates a myriad of opportunity when it comes to functionality. Instead of 3D homepages (or along side them), each user should have the ability to use the browser as a standalone 3D Desktop like 3DNA whether connected to the server or not. If connected, your desktop would serve as a personal world where others could visit. 4. "IF CLICKED": A picture object that "if clicked" can play media like video. Using a command like "create picture www.vr5online.com/picture.jpg" clicked=http://www.vr5online.com/video.wmv" would generate a picutre object that when clicked would play the video and then revert back to the picture when finished. 5. Multiple Links: Clicking on an object would produce a popup menu that has multiple selections (links) targeted to the object (if media) or to explorer (web content). Would be great for a jukebox where clicking it would produce a popup menu that has multiple streams (low and high band options?) and selecting one of them will play that stream on the object. 6. 3D Explorer: (aka: Create Web). Picture object that would accept the "Create Web " command where the picture would be an updated snapshot of said website and when clicked would allow the user to use the website straight from the 3D environment. (zoom in and switch to the target=aw_3d). Clicking the X to close the aw_3d embed would zoom back out to the avatar view. 7. Flash: Basing off of the 3D Explorer idea, the only web format that should be allowed to be used directly from the object view would be Flash. Flash will resize appropriately, and embedding the explorer view into the 3D world as a face of an object would be very useful. Instead of static banners, Flash would be used for small filesize and great looks. Flash also allows interactivity, so in world, interactive elements could be done in flash - think of a control panel or information kiosk that uses this flash command... 8. Particle Effects: 4.1 has it, but what about for an entire world? Weather comes to mind with this, where setting a particle effect like snow for the entire world would cross the entire world. Or how about moving zones? Movers + Zones = Moving Weather patterns. Obviously this would be a caretaker option. 9. AlphaIM: A standalone messenger for citizens who do not wish to log completely into the browser, but wish to keep up on messages (telegrams). 10. UniBot: Bot commands and scripts should be loaded from the browser and interpreted by the client on a per view basis (unless the script is set to global). To create a bot, simply write a script and store it on a server someplace - place it on an objest and add the following command: Create Bot http://yourdomain.com/botscript.txt and the script would load for the bot just like an attached jpg, executing automatically (within the rights of the user who made the bot..) well.. thats all I have for the moment. cheers :) gnu32Jan 31, 2006, 3:19pm
So like javascript events, such as onclick or even onmouseover? good
idea that You may want to word it carefully though, some people may read that and think "This guy doesn't know what activate is" , I understand where you're coming from though, changing just the picture to a video. [View Quote] mpl knightFeb 6, 2006, 1:05am
Yeah :)
Not really too concerned about wording.. lol. Just trying to get the general idea across without the spellchecker and sleep. Been doing an aweful lot of overnights lately to get some things straightened out, so forgive me If I wander off while typing... Most of those wishlist things were from about 4 years ago in a wishlist me and Gwala wrote. The clientside bot thing was recent for the last two years. The click menu thing I saw in a demo for the engine used by chris for PP3D... they showed the same thing... Flash support on a picture object would be amazing. Just general stuff that I randomly think of... Gotta admit, using the Standalone mode and expanding it to a local desktop environment (3DNA Style) would be a good thing |
