If AW were more like the FarCry Sandbox we'd be moving in a forward
direction. It's a real time editor that is EXTREMELY easy to use even for
the nubs. I figured it all out within minutes of opening it up. You can find
objects in a list of objects. Having a basic set of objects would be fine
and for those of us with cable we could download objects on the fly. This
does happen to be the digital era, if you've got a dial-up modem too bad for
you. I think having an editor like the FarCry Sandbox would improve AW
greatly.

CryTek engine is a different story though. hehe. It'd be nice too but... you
need a good graphics card.

haven't got a good graphics card - "too bad" dude, stick with the times!

What do you suggest for people who can't get better than a dialup modem?

[View Quote] I'm sure most areas in other countries can supply you with something faster
than dialup. Cable, Satellite, DSL. One way or another, downloads in AW are
bad anyway (at the moment) for 56k users.

I have a good graphics card. GeForce FX 5900. Cost about $150.

A GeForce4 MX 440SE can run FarCry and they are about $40 or $50.

[View Quote] You assume too much. I live in Australia, and use to live in a pretty
remote region where Cable, DSL and ISDN were not available with our old
telephone lines out in the country. Satellite was our only other option
to dial up, but the costs just do not satisfy many compared to dial up
and local call charges per connection.

I like my Ati Radeon 9800 XT Pro 256mb graphics card which cost me a
hefty amount at the time. Wouldn't mind the new Radeon X800 though (or
the Nvidia Gigabyte 6800GT).

Hehe neither would I.

I didn't say you CAN'T use a 56k connection. It would not be any worse than
it is right now for 56k users and objects. I went on at a friends house the
other day on 56k and X_X would have taken an hour to download all the
objects. That's kinda what I meant by the whole cable vs. 56k thing. I've
been to Australia and stayed and met a couple of families who didn't even
know they were using a 56k modem (I asked if they were on cable or 56k they
were like 'huh'? lol.) That and prices were a little high for cable (is what
the parents said). Cool place though I had a great time.

I was on 56k for years using AW. What's the big deal? Granted, unless you
move from world to world to do your builds, you only need to download the
object set once and then your golden O_o
And even with traveling you can, in the options, point AW to the alphaworld
directory to check there before downloading objects. Helps for a few
objects in custom worlds anyway.

Ok so than there's no issue at all. So we should get better objects and a
better engine.

Nothing wrong with Renderware.

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Broken Sword: The sleeping dragon for example?

well, grand theft auto 3 didn't really have the greatest graphics in my
opinion. they weren't bad, but there was nothing special about them. nothing
that makes you go "wow". as for broken sword, haven't played it, so can't
comment on it.
not saying there's anything wrong with renderware, just saying it aint all
that great.
