Fixed Proxy (Wishlist)
Fixed Proxy // WishlistjohnfJul 21, 2004, 10:36am
I use satellite internet. This involves a regular dial-up connection, a
proxy, a satellite dish and some special software. If I do not share the dialup connection but instead point AW to connect to the proxy on 192.168.0.1:9203 (using the proxy settings), AW cannot connect. If I share the dialup connection and try to connect to AW it logs in. I have full access to 192.168.0.1:9203 with or without the dialup connection being shared, for example this post is going through the Satellite Proxy. I wish AWI would fix this so that AW users are able to connect via proxy when they do not have direct access to the internet. I know I **can** use AW if needs be, but I use two different ISPs at different times of day which involves changing the current shared connection. PLEASE FIX THIS IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIVES! :-P John lady nighthawkJul 21, 2004, 6:27pm
More specifically *one way satellite* involves a phone line. I had *two way
satellite* for which I was completely phone line free ... and I loved it. I was using Starband and if you are one who lives in the outer limits of population you can't beat satellite because the only other thing you could get is dialup phone line. My IP addy was fixed and my connection rocked. However my sat modem died (I think that was the problem) LOL, and I can't afford a new one at this time, I'm in a populated area now so I'm on high speed cable! This rocks even better, it's faster, stronger and cheaper. Did you try the autoconfigure utililty for AW? Whenever my connection got messed up I'd use that and AW seems to have been able to find the connection and log me in. Can you turn on the proxy setting in IE and then have your sat connection use the IE configuration? That's how mine worked, but again mine was *two way* cable, no phone line. Both 9203 (Socks 5) and 9202 (HTTP) don't work - nor does Auto-configure
work..... lucky person with 2-way, limited to 256kbps downstream here - lol! I think this is a problem with AW not being able to connect if it doesn't have at least some kind of outside connection. John [View Quote] |
