I wish that they'd add texturemodes LIT to the pictwlk and pictwll set
in AW.....it would be a simple change that wouldnt take long and I think it would improve the look of builds that use these objects in AW alot....those objects already have surface properties on them..they have surface .55 .3 .1, and the unsupported texturemodes foreshorten. It would just be a matter off adding three letters-- LIT after the foreshorten. I like to build using my own textures on pictwlls and wlks, but when those objects are used in builds, they are not responsive to light. If there's a house made up of the pict objects, and you put a light inside it, the light won't shine on the walls or floors, it won't respond to the light at all. Or say you have a darkened tunnel or passageway or something and you want torches in it and have the light from the torches flicker against the walls.....if you're using your own textures for the tunnel, the lights would do nothing. Alot of people build using alot of the pict objects, I just think it would improve the look of the builds if they could also be light responsive...just a pet peeve of mine about AW hehe. :) linnJun 24, 2004, 10:48am

yeppers, I have done that for my own path for my own worlds :) But I
also like to build in Alphaworld too. If they don't want to go through and change those objects themselves I'd be glad to send AWI copies of the ones which I've already changed, then they would just need to upload them to the AW path :) [View Quote] > if you have your own OP why not add that to the rwx yourself and re name > it ? :-) > > [View Quote] linnJun 24, 2004, 10:56am

E-Mail won't do any help, maybe suggesting to them on the phone could do
something. -- Signed, TheMask :: Owner of Delusional-Minds Hosting :: Free world hosting.. Just a T-Gram will do it. http://www.delusional-minds.com ferruccioJun 24, 2004, 7:33pm
Please clarify what you mean by LIT and foreshorten. Sorry, but I can't get
a clear understanding of exactly what you want, Kathryn. O_o kathryn delanuitJun 24, 2004, 8:49pm
When you use the create light command in Activeworlds, the way in which
we "see" the light is an illusion based on its effects on surrounding objects in the area in which the light was used. The object's color and/or textures on the areas which face the diffuse light source are shown brighter to give the illusion that there is a light near it. In order for an object to be able to do this and to give the illusion of being lit by a light source, it must be enabled to reflect light. This is done by using the command 'Texturesmodes LIT" in the rwx file. If this command is not present in the objects surrounding the light source, then the objects will not reflect light, and the light will *not* be visible. Visually, it would be as if the light were not even there. You could stick 'create light' on your lamp or your torch, or whatever, but it would do nothing unless the objects surrounding it were enabled to reflect light. The problem that I was talking about with the pictwlks/pictwlls was that the objects are used by a great deal of builders in alphaworld as a stock object to build with so that their own textures can be used, but for some reason, when those objects were created, 'Texturemodes lit" was not included in them, only 'Texturemodes foreshorten" was, which does absolutely nothing, since foreshorten is not supported by the AW browser. What I'm wanting is for it to look like lights which are placed are actually there, instead of the light being invisible, or barely or only partly perceptible, as is the case when you build with alot of the pictwll/wlk objects. If "Texturemodes Lit" were added to the pictwlls/wlks, then you'd be able to "see" the lights which are placed near them :) [View Quote] > Please clarify what you mean by LIT and foreshorten. Ohh okay that makes sence. So, in order to make the objects respond to
light, all they have to do is change one line of code? kathryn delanuitJun 25, 2004, 11:00am
yeppers :) The texturemodes lit makes it lit. And these objects
already have "surface .55 .3 .1" (the command that says to what degree it will be lit), so yeah they just need the 'lit' added. [View Quote] ferruccioJul 2, 2004, 8:08am
But that's one whole line of code! Surely you wouldn't expect AWI staff to
go through all that work. |
