video test feature // Wishlistdlp anneMar 13, 2003, 5:50pm
To help users config the active worlds browser to run good on there
computer. Can it be made to do on 1st run a video test on each video mode then telling you what mode your computer will run best on. You can still pick what ever one you want, but this test will tell you know what one will work best for you. Many 3D video games do this. johnMar 15, 2003, 10:45pm
Make it optional!
Once aw kept disconnecting me in all modes except opengl & software renderer! [View Quote] dlp anneMar 17, 2003, 5:20pm
Why make it optional there is no reason for it to be that way.
This will only pop up once at 1st run, the user still has full control over what they want to use, it just tells you what will be best, its up to the user to agree or not and pick what ever they want. This test will stop all the users from complaining saying this world lags me or this area lags me. Most lag is either caused by using the wrong video mode, using a PC that don't meat the recommended requirements, or being around objects with a high poly/vert count. DLP Anne.... I think you misunderstood
If aw tests each video mode to see which works best there could be a problem if aw disconnects people each time on certain video modes. [View Quote] dlp anneMar 18, 2003, 3:28am
Your not seeing what I am talking about.
It wont disconnect anyone at all. To run this test it wont even let you log in yet. This test will run just before it lets you log in and only on the first run not each log in. It will then tell you what video mode it recommends you use and still list the others, it's still up to the user what mode they choose at this point agree with the recommended and use it or choose another. After they choose it will then let the user log in. One game off the top of my head that has this type of video test is Diablo 2 if you have that game, if not download the demo and check out its video test you will then see what I am talking about. The demo of that game can be found here. http://www.blizzard.com/diablo2/demo.shtml [View Quote] johnMar 20, 2003, 12:59pm

Hmm that should never happen.
Only thing I can say that might be doing that is something is lagging the computer real close to a lockup but don't lockup and lets you still use the computer. This type of lag dose that to me and it only seems to do that when I open to many things at once then CPU can handle. [View Quote] |
