Get a *stable* news server // WishlistkahFeb 27, 2003, 10:24am
I wish they'd work a bit on the news server, it's very unstable and keeps
dropping my connection when I'm in the middle of reading an article. It's annoying having to wait for a new connection, it's not like this is a large USENET server with 20k groups and 500 concurrent connections either. KAH binarybudFeb 27, 2003, 1:47pm

hmmm must be a "net thang" cause i have no problems with GRC especially after Steve upgraded his server. Seems very fast and much more responsive....but the AW servers disconnect all the time on me.....could just be the "net route" that my requests are taking...:)

My connection to the AW news server also gets dropped all the time. Outlook
Express will go to the "next" message, but the actual text does not change, it still displays the text of the previous message. The only solution is to go to a different news server and come back, or close OE and come back. I never get dropped from the AW NG's
Nor anything else I log into, must be your connection settings or e-mail settings. I know with my computer in its connection settings there is an option to disconnect when the connection is no longer needed. And in the email settings for disconnect after sending/receiving. Both these options can be turned on or off. [View Quote] kahFeb 28, 2003, 11:23am

In that case you're lucky :-)) I know for a fact it's no setting, as I often get disconnected right in the middle of downloading an article. The server is generally slow anyway. All the other servers I use keep my connection unless I idle for a long time, except my ISP's USENET servers if they feel like being crashy. KAH |
