World Shutdown Notification (Wishlist)
World Shutdown Notification // WishlistbuilderzMar 19, 2001, 9:32pm
I have an idea for a feature that should be added to the world server
administration tool that would make the life of a multiple world hoster/world hosting provider easier. Whenever I need to manually take the worlds I host off-line for a few moments (whether its to apply a security patch, reboot the system, or what-have-you), there is usually at least one person in at least one of the worlds. I have to start either the Active Worlds Browser or a bot, teleport to the world, and inform the user(s) that the world(s) will be off-line for a bit. It would be a great benefit to world hosters if a "world shutdown notification" message could be defined in the world server admin tool. How would this work? Well, first of all, there could be a checkbox to allow the world hoster to enable or disable the message. Second, there should be a textbox so the hoster can enter their own, predefined message. Third, a command button would be needed so the hoster could send the message. Once clicked, the world server software would send the predefined message that the hoster typed into the messagebox to all of the worlds. What would the user see? Whatever the world hoster typed into the textbox. For example, the user might see the following message: "Immigration Officer: This world will be closing soon due to maintenance. It will be back up shortly." This wouldn't be too hard to add into the next version of the world server software, and, in my opinion, I wonder why it hasn't been added already. Comments, anyone? Instead of a message you can configure in the browser: a way to make the
world app spam everybody in the world with some message when a person with access to it wants to. That way you can send every message you want to everybody in your world whenever you want. rolu [View Quote] ananasMar 20, 2001, 1:07am
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

These spam messages are green and everyone in the world receives them. That happens when you enter the world. But can a world owner also send such
a message to everybody in the world when he/she wants? rolu ananasMar 20, 2001, 4:08pm

--------------964DBD7BF61B2756BB41BB0B Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Every change in the world message causes this message to be displayed again, for all people who are currently visiting the world. You could start the message with capital "ANNOUNCEMENT:" or "BROADCAST:" to be sure it will be heard - or make a bot change it slightly 3 times so it is displayed 3 times (AW_WORLD_WELCOME_MESSAGE).
