1 kilobyte = 1,024 bytes x 8 bits = 8,192 bits
1 kilobit = 1,024 bits / 8 bits = 128 bytes

I think that's right. Anyway, this is more confusing to me, especially when trying to figure out how fast modems (measured in bits per second) and other network transmission speeds are in relation to how much kilobytes per second they send. I think in kilobytes, not bits or bytes. Most file sizes are represented by kilobytes.
