As a model creator, I have just started to read some of the postings
in this newsgroups.

I still don't think people understand the distinction between various forms
of
free. So I will try to enlighten the ones that care, and the ones that don't
care, I don't care about, lol.

The most free for lack of better word, is Public Domain. Those are things
that truly belong to everyone without restriction, like the air we breathe.
Those items, once modified by anyone can and will be resold by the person
that modifies them in any way, sort of like a miner that takes the "free"
coal
out of the ground. If of course they are not modified, than of course there
is no reason to pay money for them.

Now there are restricted free, as in the case with models that have a
copyright
notice on them, like mine do, and this will have various restriction from
not
being able to redistribute, or modify the mesh, or resell them for money.

The various free sites that TaLLan mentioned have various kinds of free
versions.
As an example, take my free Athena model, that I reduced the polys on. In
the
original notice it is very clear that it can't be resold, even when
modified.

AW has a chorse.rwx, that is a public domain model made by the company
LightWave, makers of the same named 3D program. As it is without
restriction,
the modified horses, which various modelers in AW have used as the basis for
their modification of horses, including mine, can be legally sold as a
derivative,
as defined under the copyright law.

Since some of you are so annoyed at people selling free stuff, look at this
link,
and I bet you paid money for some of the books on here that are FREE and
in the public domain..

Enjoy, Starheart

Dear Lord, Starheart! Thank you so much for that link. There's audio books
galore! I like listening to audio books while I surf the net and my kids
like to listen too.
This is most helpful. Thanks again!
