Does anyone know if there is a reason why I get argument not optional when
performing this action please?

rc = sdk.AwInit(AW_BUILD)
if rc then
msgbox "Error " & rc & " (" & sdk.rclookup(rc) & ")"
exit sub
end if

It only seems to occur in the AwSdkOcx5.ocx control with me.

Sorry, I redownloaded again and it worked :)

sometimes you have to replace the aw_build with the ACTUAL build number...
especially if you just replaced and old ocx control... i see you got it
working but this is a way to fix it w/o re-downloading
