WINE and AW (Community)
WINE and AW // Communitysonic oApr 21, 2005, 4:08pm
I know it's possible, as its been said to be possible, and a while ago i
got it to run ONCE and only once. but it didn't have the objects and junk, So again after being sort of fed up with VMs and Dual booting, I'm at it again, Though now i can only get it to work in standalone mode and thats it, the graphics seem like it'll work. Any information on how anyone else gets their WINE to run AW, if it is done out there O.o would be awesome. Mostly I believe it is probably a dll problem, but i don't know what dlls are needed to be put into the fake windows drive. themaskApr 21, 2005, 6:13pm

People have tried; it's because windows is just too dependent on many
resources that are windows-only, ex: renderware, and some other products I can't think off the top of my head. steve r oApr 21, 2005, 6:54pm
I've gotten it to work in software mode, you have to manually set in the
aw.ini to software mode, I forget the video=? setting.. I've gotten it to work perfectly but the only thing is that activeworlds does simoultanious downloads to get all the objects to download, but WINE doesn't like this. So I have to bounce a world like 10 times to get all the objects to download. It DOES WORK IN SOFTWARE MODE, It works quite good, BUT theres a few things in WINE that need to be worked out for it to work.. Maybe filing a bug report or so? I'll tell you this, AW is the only thing that keeps windows on my laptop. [View Quote] themaskApr 21, 2005, 7:06pm

As of others too, but it's too far into windows already to be recoded to
work on a *nix box. |
