So here I am sitting here again with the phones. Never you guess what i
did today.
My first accident!! >.< .. was very icy roads, and I was picking some
passengers up for the otter flight into Wolverine Lake camp. I picked
the one guy up from downtown, and was going up South Access to pick up
the second. I got to the top of south access, turned onto the merging
lane on the highway, and started to get up to about 70 kph, 80 is the
speed limit. At about 55 kpg, or maybe 60, something happened.. I dont
know if I hit the breaks or the transmission (automatic) changed to a
higher gear, but I lost control of the front wheels, started spinning.
Letting go of the gas, I applied minute break pressure, and steered
opposite of the turn.

My first worry: That truck headed opposite direction on the highway..
will he hit me?

My Second worry: That sign I'm heading for, will I hit it?

My Third Worry: Will I tip the van over.

Ok, so now you are wondering whats going to happen next. First I will
tell you about the vehicle I was driving. It is a HUGE 13 passenger van,
with all season tires. WEll.. thats about all there is to say about it.

What happened next was, the van stopped it's rotating before too long,
and was slowly turning back onto the highway... but i needed a highway
at least 20 feet wider. At this point, I was only focussed on one thing:
Will I tip over. The van slid sideways in a forward motion off the side
of the highway, into the ditch, rode up the other side of the ditch,
rolled 10 feet, and stopped planted firmly in one foot of thick, wet,
snow. Un moveable under it's own power, and about 50 feet beside the
highway.

Now here's the amazing things about this: The trusk I was worried about
just kept going, sdidnt stop to offer help, or see if we were ok.

Both myself and my passenger were not hurt in the least bit, just a
bumpy ride was all it was.

Now, we are sitting in the van, and i pull out the cell phone... What do
I say? I called and said I was in the ditch, 50 feet beside the highway.
A few minutes later the truck pulled up, and took my passanger to get to
the flight, and said the towtruck was on the way.

Now amazingly, while travelling sideways through the ditch, there was a
gap between tracks.. as in I WAS AIRBORNE IN A 13 PASSENGER VAN and
didnt tip over! As well, I missed the sign by less than two feet. Not a
scratch on the van. After I got the van pulled out and back to work, I
got sent back out to pick some more people up! ( Well a few hours later)

Well, that's my story .

even though this doesn't belong in the community ngs, was kinda entertaining
to read i guess! :) but anyway

lol, all this at 55kph? must have some pretty slippery roads :) lost control
at way higher speeds then that, (but in a normal sized car) and just ended
up skidding alittle, and stoped. :) my guess, might want to do a check on
the van,(seeing how an hour later you were out in it again) could have been
alot worse.
oo, and it's still snowing over there?O_O wow, that must suck.

aaa, i now remember my first accident. was over a year ago :)

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Beaner)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) WOW!!!
Reminded me of the roller coaster ride my car took me on, around midnight...
on a deserted country road that I was detoured onto cus there was a fatal
accident on the highway I was traveling on..... and during a major ice
storm. The roads were like a skating rink (literally) and when I came to a
stop sign at a hill, I had to turn left to go up the steep hill to get back
on the highway. My car didn't make it and it started to slide sideways
towards a ditch. I tried keeping it straight and in the dark, without
looking, tried to change gears to 3rd gear to get more traction... but I
accidentally put it in Neutral and didn't realize it. The car started
rolling backwards very fast..... down the steep hill. I had no idea what was
at the bottom cus all I could see in the dark was the road in my headlights
in front of me. All I could do was grip the steering wheel for dear life and
try to keep it on the road while looking behind me in the mirror. What did I
worry about the most??? LMAO I kept mumbling to myself.. "Not my new
car!!! Not my NEW car!" hahaha

Somehow the car hit the embankment on the right, went up a little, which
somehow made the car turn suddenly and then I was rolling forward. My ride
finally ended in a ditch alongside a corn field. 4 feet in front of me was a
big tree. Beyond that, about 12 feet in front of me was a stone drive-over
bridge and a creek. If I wouldn't have hit that ditch.... who knows what
would have happened. After I got done shaking and crying, I got out of the
car, and fell/skated up the deserted country road towards a few farm houses
with lights still on. I felt weird banging on some stranger's door in the
middle of the night out in the boonies but I needed to call my parent's to
let them know where I was. When the nice lady answered the door, all I could
do was cry and told her what happened. She brought me in, and after my
nervous breakdown, called my parents for me. But with the weather I couldn't
go anywhere and neither could they. I had no choice. I had to stay for the
night in this stranger's home. Thank goodness they weren't ax murderers and
were very gracious. After my nervous breakdown, They gave me something to
eat and I somehow slept. In the morning they called for a towtruck to get me
out. By then of course, all the ice was gone. It was like it was never there
in the first place. My car was fine. Just had some weeds sticking out of the
bumpers and the side mirror which was broken. Since then I refuse to drive
in ice storms!!

Weird how these things happen. Glad you and your passenger were ok. Scary
tho!!!!!!! Could have been much, MUCH worse! >_< Thank God it wasn't.

Believe it or not:
My son was going 55 MPH last night and flipped his Renegade Jeep over twice.
The Jeep is totalled. His elbow was scraped and he's sore but that's the
extent of his injuries. Thanks God.

well that sorta puts my accident to shame, driving home in my less than a
year old Jeep Grand Cheroke from school on a wet friday afternoon, coming up
to the many few traffic lights in my little country town. The light was
green so i kept driving and crapped myself as a black lexus suv (i think it
was a lexus) ran the red light hitting the the drivers side of the bonnet
mising the cabing where i was sitting by inches and sending me into a 360
spin and eventully stopping when i hit a tree. So yeah i wish it was a volvo
so i can yell BLOODY VOLVO DRIVER lol
