Anyone out there planning a wargame/strategy bot ?

If chess can be programmed, then I cant see why a wargame bot couldnt be
implemented - you have two sides, a certain amount of points to buy up
peices, each peice having a different cost associated with it, and different
abilities, some could be close quarters, others could have a specific cell
range which they could "fire" based on a grid like pattern (something like
a chess board only much, much larger in scale). Some could be aerial , which
only some ground based things could hit, etc etc etc....

It could be a small app with a central server, to keep player stats and have
some kind of ladder, it could also keep track of how many points the players
get (every time they win they get points) and allow them to carry over
points to the next game etc.

It could be multi-themed, merely by changing the actual object sets - a
hoverjet becomes a dragon, a knight becomes a APC, or a rifleman becomes a
archer etc - the trick is to have one standard rule set.

The rules could be *fairly* simplistic, though of course it could be
*hugely* expandable. A game such as this would promote a healthy player
experience, and AW is a perfect solution for something like this - we have
the graphics interface, we have the ability to program it in - and it is
better than programming an RPg because it is a dynamic game played between
two human being, with no need for AI's, and it doesnt have the complexity of
individual "beings" or a real storyline. Buy your "battle bots", equip your
army, then go blast you foe on the battlegrounds of ActiveWorlds.

If anyone is interested int his kind of thing, I am very happy to write the
rule sets etc for it, and provide any other assistance including the use of
a unique battle world...

Its an idea....I think its a good one =)

They have some thing like that, its called Paintball, and u can go to the world
WAR to see it. And my frieand PepperoniX is making a better one, thats more
complex. but that type of script has been made

[View Quote] This is exactly what someone else said - no, my idea is actually nothin like
paintball - it would be a turn based, large scale group combat game, based
on units of infantry, artillery , or mechanised combat - a war game =P

Very different concept =)

sOUNDS intresting, how would some thing like this world, like the rules. Some
one might take ur idea and it might be the next hit in ActiveWorlds. So maby
learn like C++ and make it so u can take all creded. And if you do tell me so i
can see it, it might be pretty cool >:-)

[View Quote] Well, ideas are all around, and I dont have time to learn C++ with all the
other projects (my music and working here at AW) in my life, which is why I
said it in a public forum - but, if someone did want to pick it up I'd be
happy to help, provide resources and creative rules also...

yah, it is an idea that has a huge potential =)

You mean that you would give a world to somebody that makes that bot?
Actually I think it would be possible, it's pretty much like the RPG
stuff...

I think Rapt0r made something like this, but his cit expired a while ago,
you may want to ask Agent1 or Abbot Pabisoko about it.

That sounds like a really good idea, i enjoy war/strategy games, all you need
for rules really are units rules(maybe to aquire units etc.),movement rules,
and weapon/power rules. One could probably do it with a Xelagot,or maybe a
hamfon,i dont think i can do it by myself right now ,but if someone starts
ill be glad to help:).

[View Quote] I dont think you could do it with a Xelagot =)

I have written up a rough draft of the rules, I need to flesh them out after
a bit of input from one or two people (Andras, I'll get back to ya soon) -
if anyone else would be interested in helping program it up, let me know and
I'll send you a rough draft of the rules/ideas I have done up - it runs to
about seven pages or so...

Cheers

Well, I can take a look at it, I'm always interested in developping more
cool bot systems for AW. And I think that it could be run trough the XelaGot
CODE (not trough X1), with seven pages of rules I would have run a script
like that trough a SrvXlgBot (or whatever it's called, the one that's an NT
service).
