Hmmm....

For a brain dead implementation, make a bot that, on the AW_CHAT event, will say
in the IRC channel "x said: y", where x is the username and y is the string he
said.

Simple enough for you?

I have a URL that all software developers should visit. If you want
to release your software free, but not let people steal it from you...
read this! If you want to let others learn from your code... read this!
If you want to co-operatively work on projects with people... read this!
If you want to let anyone use, extend, modify, or learn from your
software... Read this!

If you use any of the following pieces of software: yacc, bison,
bash, grep, PERL (most versions on web servers), emacs, finger, gcc,
GIMP, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, sed, tar, mail, Linux (the kernel as
well as practically all of the rest of the software included), dem2rwx,
and others... You are using a piece of software under the GPL license.

Or hit www.cygnus.com and get GCC.

Looking back, you are on of those people that have never asked non-sdk
questions (at least, not that a brief check of the ng showed).

Congrats, you are not included with the "targets" of this message! :)

Little known fact:

The building inspector is actually part of the browser.

It does not show up if you have eminent domain or are caretaker. Then it just
silently black-triangles things.

Re: Log Cabins

Let me rephrase that.

The messages for the BI live in local data files. If you so desire, you could change them and disable the BI from giving you messages.

The BI is triggered by various error codes from the server, which keeps track of encroachment, etc.

The BI is only existant as a nice way to print error messages. If you so desired you could change the data files for the AW browser so that it just said "ERROR 432: Encroachment."

AW just decided that the BI would be a nicer way to do it.

Disable = No messages.

The world server is still gonna validate, and it's still gonna prevent you from doing illegal building, but the BI will be out of the picture. The BI is nothing more than a nice way for
the world server to say "you can't do this".

Re: Log Cabins

Hmmm...

In any case, I can draw these conclusions.

A) There is no Building Inspector - just a fancy way to print error messages.
B) By editing the client, you can completely remove him. This may, of course,
include editing source... but you could just as easily make it say: (as DthKnight
pointed out) ERROR: #576 Encroachment.
C) The server is what is doing all the validation.
D) If you have ED, then the BI-error-messages do not show up. Instead, the
server, and the client, pretend that the objects are missing (they black-triangle
them), instead of saying that you are inputting invalid data.

Now... what say we drop this thread and discuss something else?

This may or may not be true...

*laughs maniacally*

My delaying tactics have worked! Eep has been led so far off topic... he will never find his way back! BWAHAHAHAH!

Sado

[View Quote] > No, because you're not entirely correct. :) Even WITH ED, the BI will still appear. For example, if I attempt to change an object owned by a citizen who no longer has building privileges in the world, I'll get a BI message. And like you've been told a few times now, the reason the BI doesn't mention encroachment errors will usually only happen when a world has no object registry. And you can bet your newbie ass the BI will bitch to you if the cell is full.
