Site News: Introducing Badges

With actual rewards seemingly being in short supply since cits went free to play and Flagg vanished, I was looking for something that could be used to incentivise involvement and thought to myself... Let people get things purely for the ego...

To that end I've extended the citizen profile system I recently finished, to include badges!... now it turns out this was something I already thought to do 5 or 6 years ago and already had a bunch of badges defined in the database, along with hundreds of people who had received them (GKs, CY Winners, AWTeen people etc) and all it took was a complete re-write of the front end to make them useful.

The first (new) roll out will be in the egg hunter bot, which will now award two badges, the first being "Hotep's Servant" for collecting 10 eggs, and "Hotep's Champion" for collecting all 50.

Here's KittenWithClaws with both badges:

If you're organizing an event and want a little extra something to reward your winners (or even all your attendees), then why not consider giving them a badge? Once it's set up all you have to do is paste in a list of citizen names and the website will do the rest.

There's also an incredibly simple HTTP API that allows badges to be issued automatically by third party bots / websites.
