When the HUD system was first introduced it was intended to have as few icons as possible and originally only one channel. However, with the introduction of the #swcity chat a large number of users existed in both channels.

By using the channels a user has joined to indicate their interests, the global system now automatically places a SUT terminal icon on the HUD whenever a user joins the #swcity channel and a simple click opens up the 3D web browser window to the SUT entry point.
