Just check your mailboxes if you haven't already. TS7.1 is out as well as trueplay, but only for TS7 customers for now.

Are the shared spaces working? I downloaded TruePlay and couldn't login to the shared space, even though I am sure I used the same login/password that I used to download it.

Hmmm... Any help appreciated!

I downloaded and installed 7.1. However, none of the new tools are available. I have the same exact tools as 7.0. Should I have uninstalled 7.0 before installing 7.1?

You must uninstall trueSpace 7 first before instaling 7.1 because it is a full install.
Copy a copy of trueSpace 7 some where so you can move your libraries back after the install.

Hmmm...you'd think that something in the install would tell you that. After my previous post I tried using the Reset to Default Context button in Player. That seems to have fixed my problem.

The instructions in the email mention to uninstall first and to be sure to save all of your objects, scenes, and stuff to an external folder first. It also mentions that for those who don't mind the wait, the 7.1 patch will be available early next week, which will not require saving all of your stuff.

I just tried logging into shared space with truePlay and successfully got in so it's definitely up. :)

It's up for you Dele, because you are a beta tester. It was said before that only Beta testers and Proteam members have access to shared space.

The email advertising the availability of TruePlay made it sound as though all folks able to download TruePlay should be able to get in.

I guess I will have to call Norm tomorrow...

Ah, well that may be the problem. I didn't get the email about the update. When I saw that 7.1 had been released I went back to my original email from when I bought 7.0 and followed the links to the download area and there were the 7.1 files. Perhaps I need to uninstall and reinstall everything now.

Just looking around in trueplay and noticed to issues, one if you go to workshops and run the default demo it runs fine, switch to control 2 and run brings up JScript runtime error. Another thing i was in the training area and ran through the labs and at some point the mouse cursor vanished from my desktop if i positioned the mouse over the pop up menus i could see the highlights where the cursor was could also see the highlights on the main windows buttons but not the mouse cursor not even on desktop had to close out to get the cursor to reappear.

When you uninstalled 7.0, did you also delete the trueSpace directory before installing 7.1? Even after uninstalling there are some files left in the directory including some config files (they are generated at run time by the user and so were not part of the original installation, therefore the uninstall does not know about them).

If you install 7.1 and run it, picking up the old 7.0 config files that can cause problems. My usual routine is:

- uninstall old version

- delete directory

- reboot

- re-install

I then also usually reboot before running, but this shouldn't be needed unless you also install VRay.

Well I called technical support at Caligari today. I talked to a nice lady who after referring to someone technically oriented told me I was probably being blocked somehow, as they were able to login using my login and password (to shared space).

I've worked with my routers firewall before, specifically for my Vonage phone system, and asked what ports needed to be open for TruePlay to work. I was told ports 1109-1119. I forgot to ask (and remembered when I got into the firewall) whether it needs TCP, UDP, or ICMP. So I tried both TCP and UDP. Still no luck. Anyone have any other ideas?

I had the same problem and I contacted cusomer services who then passed me on to Paul Ashington. He told me to do this.

We could check in the LE if you go navigate down to system , then enter network obj could you tell me what you see in the defServer in net properties obj, and also in serveraddress in the panel with you user name as a heading.

The def server is TPPORTAL (this is for the panel with your name in and the one that says netproperties)
In the panel with your name on it make sure that the active box is ticked
Hope this helps.:D

if not say so and will go through it more detailed instead of being so brief

My Zone Alarm Firewall record that truePlay use port 1900 beside above port

trueSpace uses ports 1109-1119 on server. Clients don't need to have these ports enabled.

If you use default winXP firewall, check if trueSpace is listed in Exceptions list under Windows Firewall configuration (in Control panel). If it is there, doubleclick it and select Change scope. Check, if Any computer is checked. If it is not there you can add trueSpace manualy. Select Add program and Browse and find ts7.exe. check also change scope if it is set to Any computer.

Thanks!! That worked, added program for TS7 in XP firewall. I did have 3 trueSpace checks, deleted those and added manually TS7 and now I can get into sharespace from within TS7.

Bummer. I am running both a D-Link router/firewall and Windows XP SP2 Firewalls and still having problems connecting to shared space.

One program (MSN Messenger) automatically added itself to the D-Link router pass-through list by using (I think) UPnP. Other hardware and apps I've added manually, successfully.

TruePlay didn't add itself to my Windows firewall list, so I added it myself, following the instructions above. I've also added it to the router pass-through list. I also added port 1900 as suggested above just in case.

Nada.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I decided to wait for the patch version of 7.1 (I'm on dialup) but in the mean time I downloaded the manual update and truePlay to test it. Installing TP went smooth, it opened and ran, however my TS7.0 installation afterwards would never open again, just returning errors about the registry.

I had to uninstall TP and TS7, then re-install TS7 to get it working again. I'll try TP again later after the patch.

At moment, we have to break down shared space like so:

1. truePlay server: anyone with truePlay and a Caligari username/password combo, should be able to access with truePlay only.

3. trueSpace7.1 shared space: any proTeam member (and beta testers) with Caligari username/password combo can get in. If you do not have proTeam and are not a beta tester, you will not be granted access to this server/shared space.

For most part, we are asking trueSpace7.1 users to try truePlay and access that server. At some point in time restrictions will be lifted somewhat, but I do not forsee this in near future.

Regarding firewalls and such. Your machine uses these items, best advice I can offer is research your firewall(s). truePlay/trueSpace uses http/port 80 for communications.

Hope this is helpful.

On the one hand, it's nice to see that TruePlay will let us all take a 'limited interaction' look at shared space. On the other hand I'm still really left wondering what the advantage is to routing all of the shared space traffic through a server at Caligari.

The idea of a group of 3D artists sitting in the same office and using shared space to work on a project together sounds at first like one of the most exciting features to come along in quite some time. When you find out it still is not working for the majority of TS7 users (except through Trueplay), and that it may never work in a way that lets you keep your collaborations on a secured local network, then the potential seems drastically reduced. Just about every multiplayer PC game out there lets you connect to games hosted over the internet or games hosted right within your local network.

The new features in TS7.1 are quite nice. All of the features in the Player PointEditing mode are just fantastic. And Blend/Bridge!!! That's gonna make life so much easier. Keep up the good work guys.
