Been zooming around the Internet today and found severl cool utility programs.

A program that will convert PDF to SWF(shockwave), jpg, etc. Also, a program that will convert Word documents to PDF and another that does SWF to PDF.

Another find is a program that will convert AVI to SWF.

All freeware btw. Most of the programs use a command (CMD) interface so it's not Windows user friendly. But if you're not afraid of type in switches at the command line, you have raw graphics power conversion here.

The reason why I'm interested in the SWF portion is that I can write my own help files. I have a freeware Help writer as well. It can save in standard windows help, html or pdf.

Okay here's my deal, I have a SWF authoring program. This means I can make a movie in trueSpace, save it as an avi file. Then I can port the avi file to a SWF for incorporation into a PDF document.

That PDF document will have interactive commands, scrollers, menu bars, sliders, mouse rollovers or whatever. Which in my opinion makes it an idea document for a help system or tutorial.

So, in conclusion for me, here it is.

tS - avi > SWF>import PDF(edited in Word)>apply Flash functions, players, loaders and whatever.

A powerhouse page that will look professional and be very powerful. SWF are tiny compared to avi and much more manageable. You can make an entire website this way or even independent applications incorportated if you know how to code.

The imagination is the only limit, that and hard drive space. :D

Didn't want to mention the name of the programs here as not sure if that's appropriate.

I'm pretty sure the only time Caligari has a problem with people mentioning software by name is when someone starts trying to promote something that's in direct competition to their software [i.e. trueSpace].

As for the various tasks you describe, if you're looking for freeware, have you tried OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/)? As well as handling Word files, it can do html, & export to PDF.
