An interesting point was raised in another forum concerning the effect EU developers are having on the market. Noting that many of the programs making huge leaps in development are developed in the EU, it was stated that this is owed to the fact that outsourcing isn't a dirty word over there while in the US it has become a taboo subject.

Armies of coders versus small teams with limited funds. I wasn't really paying attention at first, but it's starting to make sense to me. Is the US 3D market going to suffer because of the 'all internal all the time approach' or are we just in a time period where the EU is being more productive?

Or is it something else?

Actually people in the EU also complain about outsourcing, but it's not at the same scale as the US.

As for it's effect on 3D completely marginal at best given as how there most likely be only 1 major 3D company within 10 years Autodesk.

Caligari's staff aren't exclusively in the US. They have people in Canada, the UK, & I think Germany & the former Czech republic [or whatever it's called these days].

Outsourcing is a peculiar subject. Lots complain about it but almost every manufacturing company in the U.S. does it.

The most curious thing is that people don't realize how interconnected the big companies are in International Markets. U.S. companies own German and other European companies as well as having large investment in other types of companies. The same is true with European Companies investing in U.S. companies.

I think the increase in software development may be due to the fact that former Iron Curtain countries are becoming "of age" in the free market society.

The country to keep an eye on is India. There are so many programmers and engineers in that country and in the U.S., it's hard not to find India not represented somewhere in some company all over the U.S.

South America and China are doing well, but both the Asian/South American market have been heavily influened by black marketing. This may be their downfall.

And of course, let's not forget Japan and Korean. The latter is huge in worldwide development in games. We all know about Japan, so no need to repeat their accomplishments.

Bottom line, it's a World Market Economy and the lines are blurred. Outsourcing may well become an antiquated term as no one really knows who owns who or who distributes what product.
